The need to improve levels of physical activity and develop healthier lifestyles has never been more pressing.

Background:
Childhood overweight and obesity has developed into such an epidemic in the United States that national health organizations such as the Institute of Medicine, Food and Nutrition Board, and Board on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention have termed it a national public health priority and a critical public health threat.

Taste of Healthy Living

Every year, we will host something like the Taste of Chicago; rather, it will be called the Taste of Healthy Living in which every tent will be serving their restaurant's most healthy foods. In addition, there will be brochures and fliers promoting how to eat healthy and stay healthy. Each tent will be farther apart than usual in order to promote exercise. It doesn't matter what weight or age, because everyone's invited to learn how to eat healthy and stay food smarts!

Fighting obesity and cancer

I want to open and lease a restaurant that specializes in healthy eating. It would benefit all and would create a franchise with it to promote healthy eating and fight obesity and would feature such foods proven to fight disease and cancer. I hsve a father who has cancer and will not eat healthy food because he claims it doesnt taste good. This is exactly my motivation and my reason. It would be non for profit and would benefit all with its cheap prices and relaxing and non stressful enviornment.

FIRST: Fitness Insures Reliable Strength in Tenacity

Many people, especially those in America, suffer from eating disorders and many other problems regarding health. This is often led by lack of a healthy lifestyle. FIRST is a project that may influense those who live unhealthy lifestyles to overcome their problems by watching an experimentation and following a guide to maintain exercise needs as well as food consumption guides. Hopefully, this will make people understand the problems in society and try to fix themas well as bettering their lives.

the Bed-Stuy Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project

I started the Bed-Stuy CSA, because families in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn are unable to purchase fresh vegetables in the neighborhood. This lack of access to fresh, healthy food contributes to the neighborhood’s significant health epidemics: according to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Health of Central Brooklyn report, residents of Bedford-Stuyvesant suffer a rate of heart disease 30% higher than the NYC average and are two times more likely to have diabetes than the average New Yorker. In fact, 1 in 3 Bed-Stuy residents is obese.

A Fat Rant

Joy Nash, with different guises and a witty script, sounds off on what it means in this day and age to be fat. It's not someone's sole identity or an excuse. It doesn't need to carry a stigma. Wear your body with pride, she says, and reject ridiculous societal norms (think clothes made only in sizes 0-4). It's okay to embody a bigger body as long as you have a healthy lifestyle, which includes eating right and exercising.

Healthier Lunches in Duval County Schools

The purpose of this project, initiated by a small group of conscientious teenagers, (Team Gaia), is to help other young voices, our own ages, affect change, by motivating, and educating people everywhere on the topic near and dear to our hearts: healthy eating. What we hope to achieve, is to get healthier school lunch menu items (featuring local farmers’ produce) into our Duval County schools in Florida, and to help educate other communities on how to do the same thing. We will achieve this through a documentary, blogs, podcasts and following the progress on our website.
