This is a yearly concert my friend and I started in the summer of 2007 that actually happened in October of 2007. We brought in some of the best unsigned or underground indie/alternative rock bands in the midwest to come play at the Tecumseh Center for the Arts in Tecumseh, Michigan. We wanted to show our town some real music, and give the best local bands a chance to play with some of the best bands out there, while still doing something good for our community. The profits from the show go to a local charity. This past year it was a Habitat For Humanity project for a local family who had lost their home. The charity will be different every year.

|I along with my Girl Scout Troop #239 have started a food Pantry for our school district. we have earned over |$450.00 and spent that on food and other items to help the needy people in our community. Now that food is almost gone and we need to keep it up. We have many things planned to help raise funds to buy more food. we are doing a shamrock sale for $1.00, and are going to be doing a mom 2 mom sale in the winter to help with raising funds for our pantry. We can feed one family for 2 weeks on |$50.00. we want to be able to help 10 to 15 people a week. they really need our help and we want to be there for them.

Ascending Africa's highest mountain to provide medical supplies for Tanzania!

In the summer of 2008, I will be journeying to Kenya on a study abroad program through Michigan State University. After this program, I'm going to Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain at 19,340 feet. I am doing this not only for personal reasons; I am climbing to benefit the people of East Africa.

My project, Kilimanjaro: Climbing to Cure (KCC), seeks to find sponsors and raise $14,000 to send a 40-foot container shipment of medical supplies to support the Gonja Lutheran Hospital. The hospital, a rural medical facility in northern Tanzania near Kilimanjaro, is in dire need of renovation and basic medical supplies. It supports a catchment area of 124,000 people, yet has a mere forty beds and employs only two doctors. None of the money raised will fund my personal costs; all donations go directly towards shipping the medical supplies.

The container shipment may include many types of medical supplies and equipment such as portable x-ray machines, ultrasound machines, operating tables and lamps, surgical kits, autoclaves, caps, gowns, gloves, needles, midwife kits, and palliative care kits, among other things.

Financial prosperity remains an allusive dream for many young Americans. I am working on a pilot program that will help teenagers from lower income families learn business and financial skills. The project will involve placing youth in leadership positions of small corporations established just for this purpose. Successful business leaders will help guide students through the entire business cycle. Participants will learn hands-on how businesses operate and experience an unparalleled level of responsibility. This training ground is the first step in facilitating the financial success of America’s youth. Upon completion of the program, people will be eligible for microfinance loans that can be used to start their own businesses with the continued assistance of skilled mentors. This program should inspire teenagers and give them the necessary skills to achieve success. America’s youth can attain financial prosperity; they just need some help and encouragement to realize their full potential.

Ben Falik noticed how dilapidated Detroit's inner city was and wanted to do something to revitalize the city. He founded Summer in the City, a non profit that gives youth the opportunity to help rebuild their city. So far, over 750 volunteers have helped Ben rebuild Detroit.

In 2000, Tonya Allen won a BRICK Award for her work as Director of the Warren/Conner Development Coalition in Detroit, MI. Tonya helped provide more than $60,000 in grants to neighborhood organizations, organized 34 area churches to increase childhood immunization rates to 89%, and mobilized parents at five local schools to secure $3 million in school repairs in her Eastside Detroit neighborhood.
