eating disorders
Fashion Week designers tried something new this year: models were up to sizes 2 and 4 – not 0. Yes, we know that’s not a huge stride, but it’s a small relief to those who have brought attention to the cause of eating disorders in the fashion world. But some critics argue the industry can do more because they still let skinny minnies rule the runways.

My project involves a runway show for everybody, not just the stick thin model type, to flaut what their mommas gave them! The project would be called BeYourself and would try to promote a healthy body image among teens. The idea for clothes is very unique. I would have recycled shirts available to any teen (or young adult) who has something to tell the world. The people who collect these shirts would design their own by painting, drawing, cutting, or writing to spread their message to the world. They could be messages about body image, world peace, stereotypes...

I had worked in the field of adolescent psychology the year prior to my freshmen year at college, collaborating with members of the Empower Program and the Ophelia Project- both leading girls’ advocacy organizations- at the Girls Leadership Institute. I worked as a counselor in Washington, DC at the Girls Leadership Institute, a residential program that assisted at-risk adolescent females who had been victims of harassment or bullying at their schools.

My project adresses the growing rates of obesity and eating disorders among adolescents today. This project includes a 3 session long class on nutritional education for both parents and children at the Schools of St. Benedict and parish. The 3 session long classes will be held, consecutively, once in the fall, once in the winter, and once in the Spring. Each of the three weeks will cover a different topic on healthy eating habbits.

Many people, especially those in America, suffer from eating disorders and many other problems regarding health. This is often led by lack of a healthy lifestyle. FIRST is a project that may influense those who live unhealthy lifestyles to overcome their problems by watching an experimentation and following a guide to maintain exercise needs as well as food consumption guides. Hopefully, this will make people understand the problems in society and try to fix themas well as bettering their lives.
