NYC AmeriCorps Week 2008

Every year over 7,000 AmeriCorps members strengthen NYC communities. AmeriCorps Week is a recruitment and recognition event designed to bring more Americans into service, salute AmeriCorps members and alums for their powerful impact, and thank the community partners who make AmeriCorps possible.

Saving Lives with Blood Drives

You think you can't do anything to save lives? Think again! Everyday there are so many people who need blood to stay healthy and alive. Blood Source is one Blood Bank that helps people (us) give something so valuable to others who need it. It is estimated that almost everyone, at one time or another will need blood. It can save their life. Imagine that a loved one you are very close to needed blood. Wouldn't you do everything in your power to help them? So what's the difference between your loved one who needs help and someone else's loved one?

St.John the Evangleist Catholic School DS Club: Blood Drive

The St. John's community in Hapevile, Ga. is happy to help run a blood drive in response to the recent shortage. We aren't sure on a date but it should be sometime in January after the holidays. Although the kids in the club can't give blood we will help the volunteers. We might need help from local grocery stores for snacks and drinks, people tend to get dizzy after giving blood and food always helps. We want to use Life South (http://www.lifesouth.org/index.htm) because they only require 20 people to be signed up as opposed to the 50 the Red Cross requires.
