Comfort For Canines

Comfort For Canines is a individually founded program in which I collect blankets, towels, comforters, and dogs beds in new or good condition. Also, paper towels and hand sanitizer are collected and donated to the Broward Humane Society, including its many branch offices. I travel there three times a month, depending on the size of the present donation load. So far, we have collected over thousands of dollars in paper and bedding for Broward County alone.

The Global Knitting Coalition will begin as a group of knitters in Lexington, KY, who want to use their skills to help those in need. Among the primary products will be stuffed animals to be sent to hospitals in teh Near East, where young patients are given an animal during their stay but are not allowed to take it home because of an inadequate supply. Also created will be scarves and hats for donation to both local and international centers for relief, such as battered women's shelters and orphanages.

Pop Tabs Collection

Collecting pop tabs from soda cans or food cans can help raise money for Ronald McDonalds Charity House. After the tabs are collected, the local Ronald McDonald Charity House Chapter brings the collection to local recycling centers, where they are weighed to determine their value. One pound of tabs is worth 57 cents, and one gallon of pop tabs (4,175 tabs) is worth $1.49. The recycling center then sends the local RMHC Chapter or House a check for the total value.

SOCCER EQUIPMENT FOR ZIMBABWE

Last summer I attended a rock concert in New York City by the band Dispatch. It was a beneift concert for Zimbabwe relief. I was inspired to do something that would impact the people of Zimbabwe in some way. I contaced the band following the concert and asked for the names of organizations involved in the relief effort. They put me in touch with US-Africa Children's Fellowship based in Brooklyn, NY. The organization explained to me that many times the children in Zimbabwe do not participate in sports for fear of ripping the one school uniform that they own.

Trashcan Can Make A difference

In our culture, the trashcan is where we collect our refuse—those unwanted and unclean items that we want to be rid of. For many however, the trashcan represents life—a medium through which daily sustenance is found. In the spirit of the ancient practice of gleaning, in which the leftover crops at the edges of farmers’ fields were left for the poor and the stranger, we’ve reclaimed the trashcan as symbol of hope and given birth to a new initiative: A Trashcan Can Make a Difference (TCMD).

19 A Day Campaign

This is a project started by my high school Anatomy teacher. Our goal, is to inform people about organ donations. Did you know 19 people die each and every day while waiting for an organ transplant? We want to lower that number. We are presenting our first few projects in the next two weeks. Our target is ultimately teenagers, around the time they receive their license. We need to inform everyone that signing their name on the back of their license just isn't enough.

Wunlang School Project

A project directed by Village Help for South Sudan, Inc.
This website is focused on providing financial assistance to the people of the Wunlang Village in southern Sudan, Africa.
In Wunlang, the children sit outside under trees on long branches because they don't have a school building. They lack basic necessities such as school supplies and desks. During the rainy season of May to October the school is closed. Also, during the dry season of December to May the school is closed because it is too hot outside.

Getting an In-Kind Donation

So... What Is an In-Kind Donation Anyways?

In-Kind refers to something that is paid or given in goods, commodities, or services instead of money (Dictionary.com). So an in-kind donation would be any sort of donation that isn't money. This can be used to describe a lot of different kinds of donations ranging from food to space - it could really be anything. Often, in-kind donations are either more useful than a monetary donation and easier to get.

Phi Kappa Psi Philanthropy

Our founders William Henry Letterman and Charles Paige Thomas Moore started our fraternity in 1852. Our founders realized the benefit from "the great joy of serving others". In 2003 our local chapter was started. We has participated in various volunteer organizations all of which benefited the community. This semester we are looking forward to starting a local food drive, we would like to go door to door handing out bags with flyers in them dedicating a date to pick up the canned goods.
