Home Sweet Homeless

About 10 months ago 2 of my friends (18 and 20 years old) and I started monthly potlucks that we host on the second Saturday of the month. We wanted to help the homeless community in our city. We are all either high school or college students and don’t have a lot of money, so we invited our friends to come with us and bring food. The result was a potluck picnic that did not resemble the feeding lines that the homeless were accustomed to. Our events average 100-150 homeless people and 100-150 students and families that come to the park and share the afternoon together.

Tsunami Shelter and Greenhouse

My goal is to build a shelter that serves two purposes for a camp on the Oregon Coast known as Twin Rocks Friends Camp. The camp is situated along the Oregon Coast and directly in a tsunami zone. However, part of the camp is on a mountain locally known as Charlottes Mountain. The problem the main camp is located within the tsunami zone so it will be wiped out when a tsunami hits our coast, which will happen eventually. The camp has an evacuation plan, and just purchased a tsunami siren.

TruckerBuddies Volunteer Shelter Transport Program

When I was returning home on leave from the military, I picked up three retired racing Greyhounds at a track near my former base and drove halfway across the country with them to their new homes. While the three slept comfortably on the back seat, I wondered if I could make more of this happen on a larger scale.

Adopt a Rescue Pet

If you feel the need to have a fur ball friend of your own and you have some experience with animals under your belt, look into adopting a pet. Caring for your own animal can take a lot of time and hard work, but the reward of having a new friend forever makes it all worthwhile.
