Project Description
My project involves a runway show for everybody, not just the stick thin model type, to flaut what their mommas gave them! The project would be called BeYourself and would try to promote a healthy body image among teens. The idea for clothes is very unique. I would have recycled shirts available to any teen (or young adult) who has something to tell the world. The people who collect these shirts would design their own by painting, drawing, cutting, or writing to spread their message to the world. They could be messages about body image, world peace, stereotypes... - anything in which teens could voice thier opinion! Then, at the runway show, the shirts would be worn by the creators or could be given to someone else to wear for the show. The shirts would be auctioned off and the money would go to the choice charity (I was hoping for this project to be annual so a new charity could be supported each year!). However, this would give the community a chance to get invovled and for teens to voice their opinions without being self-conscious about they their weight or looks when walking down the runway. This project incorporates many problems facing teens today. I invision this show happening outside, so then afterwards there could be a dance for young and old alike to feel comfortable in the skin we're in. I feel this project would be awesome if I could get enough support for it to work!
