NYC AmeriCorps Week 2008

Every year over 7,000 AmeriCorps members strengthen NYC communities.

AmeriCorps Week is a recruitment and recognition event designed to bring more Americans into service, salute AmeriCorps members and alums for their powerful impact, and thank the community partners who make AmeriCorps possible.

AmeriCorps Week provides an opportunity for AmeriCorps members, alums, grantees, program partners, and friends to shine a spotlight on the work done by members in communities across the country—and to motivate more Americans to join AmeriCorps or volunteer in their communities.

Host a Blood Drive!

Can’t donate blood (the age is usually 17 or over)? There’s still hope!

Unable to donate? No problem. More than 38,000 blood donations are needed EACH DAY. Plan a blood drive in your community and help reach that mark. Even if you are not eligible to donate, recruiting people to donate is just as great!

Step 1: Contact your local Red Cross

Donate Blood!

Donating blood is a great way to help people battling cancer! A cancer or leukemia patient requires 2 to 6 units of red blood cells, and 6 to 8 units of platelets every day for 2 to 4 weeks.

St.John the Evangleist Catholic School DS Club: Blood Drive

The St. John's community in Hapevile, Ga. is happy to help run a blood drive in response to the recent shortage. We aren't sure on a date but it should be sometime in January after the holidays. Although the kids in the club can't give blood we will help the volunteers. We might need help from local grocery stores for snacks and drinks, people tend to get dizzy after giving blood and food always helps.
