helping seniors

I am a Boy Scout working on my Eagle Rank. For my community service project, I am building a vegetable garden for our local nursing home. I am applying for donations to cover the cost of plants and sidewalk material for this project.

Youth Entertaining Seniors is to be an organization that will connect with Senior Citizens who live in retirement homes. Many Senior Citizens are not visited often by existing relatives, and many have no living relatives left. Therefore, it is the duty of those involved in Youth Entertaining Seniors to make these seniors feel that they are loved.

For our project we helped out with the elderly, I created a project called HOPS "Helping Older People Smile" that pairs elderly patients with high school students this past year. When have had an overcrowding number of students get involved and I am so excited next year to see what happens with the program. This program took off like wildfire and many of the patients lives have changed tremendously due to having this one person come and visit them.

My name is Sammy Sweet. I would like to start a fund to help those gramas and grampas
in nursings homes in my area, Barberton, Ohio. My mom worked for years in a nursing home as a LPN. We learned there are lots of folks in homes that have NO family or friends... no one visits...they have no finances...their independence gone. There needs to be a fund for those in need...the small things mean a lot to those that have nothing. It could be a favorite magazine, bottle of hairspray, or lotion...even new underwear!!! Meeting these gramas and grandpas needs is the most important to me!

The basic objective is to create a unique garden in a setting where students could utilize the things they were learning in the classroom and at the same time interact with and support members of our community. We are fortunate to have the Living Community, a center for our senior citizens. One of the most essential aspects of this project was to actively involve the senior citizens at the Living Community. A mixed-generational project.

ARTS aims to spread the spirit of the arts to seniors in nursing homes and students in underresourced elementary schools. As an arts troupe comprised of high schoolers across Palm Beach County, it holds variety shows with music, dance, and theater performances. In addition, ARTS also sponsors a week-long camp each summer for urban elementary school youth. The camp is an arts immersion for the students, allowing them to experience all facets of the arts in classes taught by high school volunteers who have received formal training in those fields.
