We will be working with youth from the Barry Farms Community of Anacostia. Barry Farms is a small inner-city neighborhood in Southeast Washington, D.C., adjacent to St. Elizabeth's Hospital. Possibly the oldest African American neighborhood in Washington, it is today almost entirely occupied by public housing projects and has a reputation for violent crime, poverty, and neglect, although it has devoted and concerned community activists who believe that it is in the early stages of redevelopment.

My interests have always rested in the business field; however, it is difficult for me not to be passionate over contributing to the underprivileged or society in general. After a year in a community college I became aware of how many low-income and international students were unable to easily obtain fundamental information about how to protect their financial future or their current assets with ease. Many of these individuals were also being consistently exposed to job opportunities that required large investments while offering absolutely no return.

Help launch www.TeenAmbition.org, the online magazine for people who have dreams, goals, and a desire to make a difference. TeenAmbition provides a forum for young writers, business owners, and community leaders to share their stories.
This project was started to help young adults improve their financial literacy. Anyone can learn about money, business, and the economy. These topics impact everyone’s lives, yet few people take the time to understand them.

This is a project started by a group of UCLA undergrads to help raise the coffee producers of Quebrada Grande, Honduras, out of their extreme poverty.
For generations, these farmers who live and work high in the mountains of Honduras have been isolated from the rest of the world, with no clean running water, sanitation, health care, or education. The average family of five lives on about $0.74 a day, oftentimes only able to feed their children 4 or 5 times a week.

'Create a Retail Store' is a marketing campaign that I created. I am planning on majoring in fashion marketing and merchandising (business) when I start college so this project is relevant. Retail stores, and many other types of businesses boost the American economy and serve entertainment for many Americans on a regular basis. Many people feel that retail stores are for 'stuck up' people to buy overpriced clothing and accessories, but that is not a fact.

I started a business with my simbling as a child after seeing my mother make gift baskets by hand, we decided we could do the same to make a little extra money. My siblings got bored with it so they quit and I continued on selling baskets as a hobby of mine and as an attempt to learn about to business world. I continued this business with the help of my parents in high school. I even used my business idea to enter into a small business competition, and I won.

The inspiration for Hives for Lives was an incredible man named Michael Otto Houlahan. He was an intelligent, loving and beautiful man. Four years ago, at the age of 63 he passed away from the deadly disease of cancer. He was my grandfather. I was in the 6th grade when he died. Shortly after his death, my other grandparents came to visit my house. They had beehives that, at the time, were simply a hobby my sister and I shared with them. They were talking about how they didn’t know what we should do with all of the honey. My little sister Carly and I suggested we sell it for charity.
