On some property in the county area surrounding a growing city, two friends and I will raise saplings native to the area grown sustainably in the shade of larger trees and sell them to the city dwellers who are suffering from the distruction of sudden urban deforestation such as landslides, wind throw, and depleted landscapes. We will also offer the sale of plants and other native wildlife and plant them to get the best use out of an area and use methods that require less reliance on city water, fertilizers and extra maintenance.

S.L.U.G. (Student-Led Unity Garden) is an organic, sustainable garden located on the University of Portland’s campus in North Portland. The SLUG Project was started in 2006 by a small group of dedicated UP students, and the garden was built in the spring of 2007. In addition to organic gardening, the garden aims to help build a relationship between students, their food, and the surrounding North Portland community.

MISSION STATEMENT:
We are committed that Seattle students will develop their own understanding of food and energy through direct experience with the community.
DINNER:
In Seattle on January 12th 2008, local communities of educators, builders, chefs, legislators and students will gather to discuss the future of environmental education in Seattle highschools.

Our goal is to discuss what is already in place and what people are doing that works and apply that to the future of education.
