Imagine a City…
where teens are
valued and appreciated for
who we are,
no matter what!
The community this project is helping is every citizen, visitor, and friend of the City of Alexandria. Through the project, we have three main goals that will affect every Alexandrian. First, the Spectrum of Conversations, or roundtable discussions, will be and open, honest, and comfortable environment where teens will be able to express our true feelings, emotions, and experiences in a setting designed to facilitate change and understanding.

Nevada has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the country as well as the highest high school drop-out rate in the country. Given the anything-goes tourist culture in Las Vegas as well as the lack of comprehensive sexuality education in southern Nevada schools, this doesn't seem to be a coincidence. Young women in southern Nevada are given neither the information nor the opportunities they need to protect themselves and their futures.

During this week I used my club, Students Advocating Darfur Awareness, to raise money by going from class to class and giving presentations on the current state of affairs in Sudan. I also had wristbands made, which said "Genocide Awareness: Are you doing your part?" and sold them in order to raise money which we then donated to SaveDarfur.org. At then end of the week we held a large movie presentation where we showed a video on Darfur and the movie Invisible Children in order to further spread.

HELPRZ is a club of high school students from Steamboat Springs, Colorado going to Zambia, Africa to complete service projects. I am Lennae Jenkins, club leader and Steamboat High School graduate. I lived in Zambia twice: working at a chimpanzee sanctuary and building a school for the local kids who's families work at the sanctuary. I raised over $15,000 for the building of the school. While i was there, I worked with the people to build the school and I hired a local teacher to teach.

EMPOWERMENT
Using movement arts as a platform for individual and global change, this project will simultaniously create documentation to raise public awareness of both the use of therapeutic movement modalities and the issues of disadvantaged youth.
General Outline and Populations Served:
This project serves disadvantaged youth, 4-21 years of age who would not otherwise have access to therapeutic movement services or exposure to movement arts.

Students of the Mississippi-Vermont Community Comection class at Twinfield Union School in Marshfield, Vermont have been learning from a “Rights in Action” curriculum. It is a model that enables students to reflect, create and fulfill action plans while building a voice that empowers and is shaped by community. Imagine a new generation of citizen activists bridging our nation’s North and South divide, raising their voices on important public issues, and enlisting community leaders and educators as partners in the civic and political life of their communities.

Spark the Wave is a non-profit organization that empowers teens through educational programs to be great volunteers and community leaders. Our programs offer teens who are 13-17 years old leadership training in areas such as communication, group dynamics, and leadership, as well as diversity education. Most importantly, Spark the Wave inspires teens to make a difference in their communities. I am currently a senior at Albright College in Reading, PA. Because I'm an education major, I've had the opportunity to observe in several of the schools here.

Anytown Arizona Anytown Arizona programs guide participants through facilitated dialogue and interactive workshops designed to provoke thought and inspire change. Through this experience, participants not only address their interactions with others, but also investigate their own identity and discuss issues that can be difficult to approach in everyday life. By raising the level of consciousness about the sense of otherness and distrust, Anytown Arizona programs help prevent the negative spiral of alienation, prejudice and hatred.
