Superstar Madonna wows us with her new role as Producer, Writer, and Narrator of her feature documentary "I Am Because We Are," which she premiered this past weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
CGG checked out the film, which opens with Archbishop Desmond Tuto proclaiming "I am because we are," or "Ubuntu," an idea present in African spirituality which means that we only exist because of each other, and that we are all connected in community, health and faith.

Along with the release of her new hit song, "4 minutes to Save the World," Madonna is the covergirl for Vanity Fair's 3rd annual Green Issue. The cover features Madonna striking a pose in front of a custom-made globe measuring four feet in diameter. The globe, which took ten days to complete, is made of plaster and marble dust with a recyclable core. After the shoot, Madonna signed the globe, making a point to draw a heart over Africa.

Celebs Gone Good came within inches of Madonna and JT in the press room -- at one point, we could reach out and touch them (of course, we didn't! We're professionals!). The two posed with fellow icon -- and inductee -- Iggy Pop, who wore his usual attire: shirtless, with well-defined abs. We've never seen so many camera flashes go off at the same time!

Gucci and UN team up for benefit

The stars came out last night for a huge NYC party to benefit Madonna's Raising Malawi Foundation. Like any good Hollywood style event, the fundraiser doubled as a fashion party, hosted by Gucci, who coincidently is opening a new store in New York tomorrow. Even though these star-studded fundraisers make my skin itch, I realize they do pull in the cash flow. The event last night raised a hefty $3.7 million... so I guess I can deal with the image of primped up celebs munching on truffles and caviar. Even Madonn's daughter, Lourdes, was looking glam.

I will admit that her films have generally flopped -- although she was brilliant in Evita! -- but Madonna is giving moviemaking another go. This time, she's directing. And with the documentary subject matter close to her heart, I Am Because We Are may just be a hit. It's slated to open at Sundance in January 2008.
