Project Description

We are a brother and sister who have been able to go many places and see many things.  Sometimes when we see, or hear about other kids who don't have what we enjoy, we want to help.  We love to play with stuffed animals, they make us feel good, and we love to read.  When kids in America finish with bears and books, they just give them away and sometimes they are wasted.  We are collecting all these books and bears (or other animals) and sending them to other kids who don't have an animal to hold or a book to read.  The safe and hopeful feeling that these things brings is so important to kids growing up to make a difference. We want other kids to read and learn and feel good about themselves and go out and make their own difference in their community. Right now, there is an orphanage and a school in Africa that we are sending the books and bears to.  We want to send them whereever kids need them.

Project Description

The mission of the Youth Action is to encourage youth to participate in missionary work and promote a culture of public service by providing sponsorships for those that may be financially unable to pay for their passage. As our cooperative grows, the organization’s mission will also provide direct support to projects related to domestic and international mission trips.

The Youth Action was organized to serve youth who share an ethic of service and who are motivated to effect change in their communities and the world at large. Our sponsorships will make it possible for all young people who share this ethic and commitment to public service to experience mission work regardless of their ability to pay.

Project Description

Today’s youth are seldom concerned about world events. They live their lives engrossed in technology, but do not make it their mission to learn about any international, let alone, domestic occurrences; because of this, it is hard for them to affect change.

This project is being executed to aid our fellow comrades. The purpose is to have them step out of their daily lives and expose them to the facts that don’t make the world such a wonderful place. Giving them the real facts will result in their cognitive dissonance; what they were told will conflict with what we tell them.

We will hold workshops on such issues as Child Soldiers, 9/11, and the Corporatocracy (Economic Hit men). Also, we have designed a website to accompany the information given in the workshops.

We used our first workshop on Child Soldiers as a means to predict whether our project will be successful. Our peers came with little knowledge about child soldiers; they left our workshop in tears. We hope to achieve this same level of success with our consequent workshops.

Conducting workshops seems to be an effective way of informing our peers about the dynamics of the world. The interactive activities that we conduct keep our peers interested and still provide them with the necessary information that they need to escape ignorance and affect change.

Project Description

This group was started because of my friend, Stacie. She wanted to help others on a community and global scale. We just started it. We already have three projects in the working! One is called "Change for Change". We collect money for those who are suffering during the genocide in Darfur. Two is making care packages for the returning and departing Iraqi soldiers. We plan to get the local elementary schools involved. Third, this is the biggest one of all, "Jam For Sudan". We plan to use our school's football field and hire bands to play. It will raise awareness for those who are starving in Sudan. We want to make a difference in this world.

Project Description

The World Volunteer Project is something that I have been trying to develop and raise funds for, ever since I have returned to my first volunteering trip to Ghana. Any funds that I raise for this project will help me return to the orphanage that I worked at in my time spent on the west side of Africa, everything else that I can raise above the amount needed to return for 6-12 months will be spent on the children and adults who need it.

A small amount of money can make a huge impact on the lives of people who need a little extra help. Mattresses for the children to sleep on or money to send them to boarding school can make an extraordinary difference in their lives. The time I spent in Ghana has given me the insight and knowledge to be able to put money to good use and effect change in individuals, so that they can change the masses.

I plan to work with orphanages as the main priority of the project, secondary will be adults in surrounding communities. There are millions of orphans in Ghana, unless someone helps them, they will be lost to the uneducated whims of the world. Although it is difficult, and maybe even impossible, to help all of them. It is worth the while to try and help those of whom you can.

For the past five years, I have been actively involved in spreading awareness about the annual, AKF USA-sponsored Partnership Walk. AKF USA is an amazing organization that focuses on “seeking sustainable solutions to poverty, hunger, illiteracy and ill-health with special emphasis on the needs of resource-poor areas” and "bringing valuable lessons to the attention of policymakers and others whose decisions affect the lives of the poor." (www.akdn.org) Every year, AKF USA sponsors the “Partnership Walk” in 5 major cities in America; it is a unique and exciting opportunity for Americans to “act locally and make an impact globally,” (www.partnershipwalk.org/usa/content) since a full 100% of all the funds raised during the walk are given directly to AKF’s projects in the developing world. Basically, you can register to walk online at http://www.partnershipwalk.org/usa/content/stepintoaction/walk.html, get people to sponsor your efforts to stop global poverty (an easy task, let me assure you…), and walk the Walk! So you’re not much of a walker? This is a day (anytime of the year) where everyone from all background, racist and religion together to have fun, eat together and celebrate with live cultural entertainment.The way me and my school organized it is by getting a whole lot of local sponsors and handing out notes of notice to students about Wold Day, and also asking for their homemade cultural food to be brought in.We also had performances from local cultural community centers and media broadcast.On this day it was a day of non-discrimination, non-racism and fun !!!
