See It: The Community being helped

As of now, I am working with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Frederick County, my high school, and Do Something to start up a Big Brothers Big Sisters Club. I have recently recieved approval from Do Something to start this club and hope to get things underway in early September once school starts. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a community organization that pairs underpriveledged children from the area with mentors. While the mentors are usually adults, Frederick County's BBBS organization has a major shortage of willing adults. Because of this, they are offering teen mentoring programs. In fact, I am becoming a teen mentor myself. The purpose of my club is to help BBBS of Frederick County, Maryland match their needy Littles with students from my high school. However, I also plan for the club to help all of BBBS as well. For example, one project idea I have in mind is to do a Christmas-Time Toy Drive, where we will collect toys from locals and buy the rest from local toy stores. In order for this to be accomplished, fundraising will be essential, as will be any donations and grants we can get! My biggest idea, though, is to hold a summertime bash in June of 2008 for ALL of BBBS' Big's and Little's to attend. This will also require lots of money. Overall, I simply want to help out the needy and underpriveledged children of my community by providing them with companionship and good times. Since I can't do that all on my own, I am attempting to recruit students from school that feel the same way as me. I hope you can help me with this dream!
