Project Amani

The Amani Baby Cottage is home to over 50 children age 0-5 years old who have been orphanged due to AIDS or other extreme factors. ABC, located in Jinja, Uganda, is an orphanage run almost entirely by volunteers and the support of individual donors. Since Amani opened in 2003 they have had 131 children come through their doors. 48 of those children have been either reunited with extended family or placed in foster homes. 12 of the children have been placed in another ministry house (they can only stay until they are 5).

PhotoVoice in Jacmel, Haiti

This spring, I will be traveling to Jacmel, Haiti, with my friend David Hazard to work on a project at Haitian Children’s Home (HCH).

Haitian Children’s Home (www.haitianchildrenshome.org) is an orphanage operated by Danny and Leann Pye, missionaries from Florida. The orphanage houses about 22 children of various ages, ranging from newborn to teen-aged. Through international sponsorship, these children are provided the food, housing, and education (primary and secondary) necessary for a fulfilling life in Haitian society.

Non-Profit Bookstore for Foyer de Sion Haitian Orphanage

I’ve worked as a volunteer for five years for the Foyer de Sion Orphanage in Haiti. I spent hundreds of hours working on fund raisers, secretarial work, and reunions. Most importantly, I was blessed to be able to spend a week volunteering at the orphanage. Seeing the devastation and poverty in Haiti, and serving the children there, completely changed my life and brought into focus my intense desire to help children.

Jamsher Children's Village

In 2001 my family and I took my first trip to India. My personal experiences during this visit opened my eyes to the plight of the needy children. I realized how fortunate I was to live in Canada and have the opportunities for leading a good life. Through my involvement in KEY Club, Global Responsibility Club and my volunteer activities I became inspired and motivated to undertake what will probably become my life’s work. My vision is to build an orphanage in India.

A group and I went to Peru and worked a whole week there while handing out tracks. We made the Peruvian orphanage feel more like home. We cleaned it up and added a play ground and gave the kids more clothes and toys and best of all.....love.

The Olevolos Project

The Olevolos Project is an up and running non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status. The main goal of the project is to build an orphanage for Jane's Orphans' Center in Tanzania, Africa. It is our hope that this orphanage will:

1. Support the children’s direct physical needs;
2. foster a positive social experience and alleviate feelings of stigmatization, discrimination, and ostracism;
3. Create an encouraging environment in which the kids feel empowered to develop into valued members of their community;

Afrikaah

It has always been my dream to open an orphanage for children.
In the 7th grade I learned at HIV/AIDS and it really intrigued me. Ever since then, I have wanted to open an orphanage in Africa, and just recently I have decided where and when I plan to do this.
I would love to start now to prepare myself emotionally, physically and mentally for this trip. I have been learning about the culture, the disease, and all of the need-to-know facts.
I have chosen Swaziland, Africa as my location and I already have a few people ready to go with me.
