We want to play a big roll in the lives of othe people of all races. We are currently trying to get religon into schools and with that we need a little help getting started. This could be the change. We dont support just one religon but all religion's. We are really looking foward to hering from every one soon!!!

Desired

Project Description

Desired was created in August of 2006 as a result of a camp experience I had. The summer of 2006 I was a camp counselor at Camp Good News and spent my time reaching out to young girls, mostly ages 10 to 15, and teaching them about Jesus and his love for them. I came home wanting the experience to continue! I took a look around and saw that there were plenty of girls in my youth group who needed a "big sister" or a mentor in their lives to help them learn how to follow the Lord in everyday life and most importantly to help them understand his incredible love for them! I wanted these beautiful girls to see just how amazing they really are, to know how perfect and unique each of them is and to be able to really live in the joy of knowing that they are "desired" by Jesus. Smiling I got together with my youth pastor and his wife, presented my idea and then we began planning. Along with 2 other girls my age, we organized a girls' group, named it "Desired" and started advertising with the girls in youth group and their friends. We started out meeting once every other week at our youth building and we simply did some really fun interactive activities to make them feel special and loved, while adding in a Bible Study time to help strengthen their faith and knowledge of God. Some of these activities included a very fancy sit down dinner, a slumber part, painting, kareoke night, etc. Over time, the girls found lasting friendships in each other and in myself and the other mentors. By the next summer, the girls were not only best friends with each other, but they had developed a strong sense of trust in and respect for myself and the two other girls who helped out. It was incredible year of growth and relationship for them. I believe they came to know Jesus' love for them in a new and lasting way. Desired provided a safe haven for girls who had no friends, an unsafe home, or were simply feeling lonely or trapped. Through this school year, Desired has continued under a new name, Poiema. Some of the girls stuck around, others moved on and lots of new faces have joined us. We still have a great time and are learning even more about Jesus and his love for us every week. I believe strongly that it is important for young girls to have positive self image, to like who they are and to look forward to who they are becoming in order for us to have a positive impact on our world as wives, mothers, leaders and community participants. I also believe it is vital for girls to have friends that are girls, friends they can trust and rely on. And lastly, I believe that it is essential to community life for older girls to reach out and lead those younger than them, no matter what age or stage they are at. I believe that through Desired, Jesus has changed and shaped many young hearts. Smiling I pray that it will continue in the future, even after I have graduated!

Edison High School's Week of Tolerance

Project Description

This week is for promoting diversity and tolerance of everyone on campus at my high school. Each day will have a specific topic of discussion. The topics include Religion, Gender Orientation/ Sexual Preference, Race, and Disability. With each topic, comes activities and educational events. Along with each topic will also be a video, in each homeroom class, explaining what is going on throughout the week, and also a description of examples/ statistics of issues surrounding the topic of the day. The end of the week will be wrapped up with an assembly through "Rachel's Challenge" followed by a day of silence for all those who are forced into silence because of discrimination against them . Currently, I am selling shirts to faculty and other students that say "Accept Me." on the front; Those who have the shirts will be asked to wear them at least once during the week in order to promote a message of acceptance of all people on the Edison campus. The shirts are simple black tee shirts with white lettering, in order to be simple enough to catch people’s eye. Another point of such a bold statement is to stimulate people to ask questions, and inquire those who are wearing the shirt what it means.
This project is really important to me because I feel that it is time for change at Edison High School. It’s time to make an impact on the student body and open their eyes to those around them. There are too many people who aren’t accepting of others because of stereotypes; I plan to not only change the way people view others, but also break the stereotype molds.

Developing Children's future

Project Description

In my project, i have been trying to develop leadership in children by conducting them into the religious education. My control group is going to be some children of the members of the spanish youth group of St. John of God Parish. This kids are between 5 and 12 years old. In this project, my purpose is to develop their behaviors as they were growing in the community of St. John of God. I'm a volunteer in taking care of these kids and i started to feel a lot of closeness to them, and i feel that they have the potential needed to make a better community and to make the qoute "kids are the leaders of the future" a true statement.
Accross this project, I noticed a big difference in this children, they get more and more involved on the task that i assigned to them. We had made a lot of events in which they demostrated their effort and the improvement of personalities that they had aquired. Thanks to this activities, they had also a good friendship between them, they started sharing experiences and helping each other accross the time. I was also involved in the development of this kids. Along with three partner and one leader, we had taugh the kids how to stand for what they want, what they must know about the church and how to live a christian life.
Along the way, i discovered that i was learning from hem too, and i leaned how to treat people (especially kids) in different situations. I became a friend for them, as them becom friend for me. it was a really good project and even this is finish, i keep contact with these children and keep taking care of them.

Religion School

I teach children, between the ages of four and seven, every Sunday at the Islamic Association of Long Island, Religion School. I, myself was a student at this school for ten years, and after i graduated, my request to become a volunteer teacher, was granted. I have been teaching there since September, and although this is only my first year as a teacher, I intend on teaching there for many more years to come, and I enjoy is a lot. It is an unforgettable experience and i absolutely love working with little kids.

Finding Heaven in Hell service project

Project Description

On the roof of a small hut, with a machete in my hand thousands of miles away from home, working in what felt like 150 degrees; I stood here never knowing that this trip to Tadzebichen, Mexico would change my life forever. The smell in the air brought memories of the forest after an afternoon rainstorm, while the blueness of sky took away any worries that I may have had. Fresh wind gently blew against my face. On my service project in this poverty -stricken village hundreds of miles from any civilization; I began to hear God speak to me.
The villagers walked around without any shoes; they were dirty; they wore the same clothes everyday, and they slept on hammocks. There was no electricity or modernized inventions to make life easier. Everything seemed to have been the same for hundreds of years. There were still wells in the village from which they retrieved their water and their tiny huts were made from the branches, mud, and leaves that surrounded their environment. I wondered to myself what good could be found in such a society. As I lived there, I saw the kindness of the people. The people of the village did simple, but heart touching things such as give us big hugs that needed no words to explain the love that they felt for us. They treated everyone in the village as their own family. Everywhere I looked I saw smiles and happiness by the compassion that was in the air. The people’s gratefulness for our help was indescribably overwhelming, similar to a thick quilt on a cold winter night that feels your entire body with warmth. I experienced the emotional connection to the people and felt a newer, higher level of happiness than I have ever experienced before in life being revealed to me.
Another dynamic revelation that was taking place was how grateful I was for my life. Away from everything at home was making me realize how blessed I was. I am usually so busy and never really realize everything that I have in my life. In the mornings in Tadzibechen, we would hear a pig screaming. As we walk out side the huge pig would be tied to a tree and one of my classmates would take the spear and stab it in its heart. Afterward one of us, usually I, would take a razor and shave the hair off the pig’s body and prepare it to cook. All of this just for their citizens would have meat. When I eat a piece of bacon now, I am thankful in realizing all I had to do is buy it from the store. This along with many other things that I was experiencing on this trip really allowed me to be a more thankful person.
Despite my many accomplishes in life, my accomplishment of helping others that were in drastic need of help was most fulfilling. In school, I have been part of the Students Across Cultures club since the ninth grade; and now as a senior, I am the president of the club that organizes functions promoting diversity throughout New Orleans. For example, I was on the planning committee for the First National Forum on Diversity and Poverty at Loyola University. I am blessed as an athlete, allowing me to have lettered twice in Track and Field as a captain. I am honored to have been elected to the student council as senior class Rep-At-Large. As a school leader, I am responsible for contributing to all the functions that are put on for the student body. I am on the peer support team which travels to lower grade level classes to speak to them about how to overcome everyday problems. I am an active member on the Mock Trail Club and compete against local and nation wide schools. I also am an Advanced Sells Rep. for Vector marketing and sold nearly fifteen thousand dollars worth of Cutco in my first 4 weeks working for the company. Although all of these things are really great and bring happiness to me, the happiness I was experiencing on this trip out weighed it all.
I learned that we do not need riches and fame to be happy. It is not about what accomplishments we have attained but about what we have accomplished for others that is the key to happiness and success. I found that I was much happier volunteering my time in the pursuit of helping make life easier for others. I volunteer my time at my church every week where I am the Junior Deacon President. There, I lecture younger kids through out the city on current issues that we face in everyday life. The children that participate with the Junior Deacon program at my church are mainly inner city kids from low income families that depend on our meetings to make it from week to week. I mentor and discuss with them about school, friends, pressure, drugs, and faith along with many other difficulties that they may be facing. As a Junior Deacon I get the chance to directly affect others in a positive way that may very well redirect the courses of their lives. Things like this were much more fulfilling than any golden plaque or award that has ever been presented to me with my name on it. Involvement with the Youth Rebuilding New Orleans Club also brought me this inner peacefulness. Spending weekends with other local teenagers for the one purpose of helping restore our city by taking out time to help one individual at a time slowly put back the puzzles of their life is priceless. This trip was slowly revealing the graces of life to me.
Simply concluded, life is about caring for the other man while being grateful for what you have; and, so, I continued to work on the roof, sweating pounds of sweat, thankful for this moment and experience that would change me forever.

I.H.S. CROSS

Project Description

CROSS, Christians Reaching Out Serving our Savior, is my school's bible/drama team. We go to different churches and youth organizations to perform skits, mimes, and puppet routines, all to glorify God. We have a great impact on our community, and we try to target the youth in the area. We want them to see that there is a life beyond sex, drugs, alcohol, and abuse.
Another aspect of CROSS is that we help those that cannot help themselves in some way. We are a non-profit organization, and we do fundraisers so that we can help those in need. Such examples include paying for funerals of people that could not afford it themselves. We also helped a boy that wanted to have his wish fufilled by the Make-A-wish foundation to have a ride on a train.
So, not only is CROSS about glorifying God, we are about glorifying the citizens of our community.

 Many people have a tendency to prejudge or be prejudice towards people simply because of what they wear (For ex: How Muslims wear the veil- Hijab). This project is to raise awareness and diminish the bigotedness that may arise among people of different religions through drawing parallels with  each other. For example, one can refrain oneself from saying terms that may deemed to be derogatory. One can also take a step and find why people may wear/dress in a certain through researching and becoming aware of their religion.
