See It: The Community being helped
You Go Girl Go Empowerment Forums engages inner-city, at-risk young women in panel discussions ranging from social in justice, lack of privilege, education, careers, health, youth involvement, employment and economic empowerment. The need is for at-risk young girls to be connected and see positive images of women, so they don’t get pregnant, drop out of school or become a victim of the street. Our core issues are teen pregnancy, violence, and self-esteem. We promote self-love, self-respect and self-determination.
The focus this year for You Go Girl Go is health and fitness. Our Empowerment forums have been focused on healthylife styles. We were able to get Bonita Taylor, a personal Trainer to work with the girls. And in May will be starting a weekly excercise program.
This year we are having an amazing event, the to combat childhood obesity. The 1st Annual Young Women's Day, Health and Fitness Expo at Pelham Bay Park, Bronx NY, on July 12th from 10:00am to 5:00pm We are partnering with the Williamsbridge NAACP Youth Council and local political leaders to reach over 500 young women. Our plan is to be a source of information, while celebrating womanhood in a forum that can encourage healthy eating and fitness. While educating young women about childhood obesity, and offering healthy lifestyle alternatives, in fitness and nutrition. Our goal is to decreases the risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis and some cancers in young women and the community.
