This website is focused on providing financial assistance to the people of the Wunlang Village in southern Sudan, Africa.
In Wunlang, the children sit outside under trees on long branches because they don't have a school building. They lack basic necessities such as school supplies and desks. During the rainy season of May to October the school is closed. Also, during the dry season of December to May the school is closed because it is too hot outside.
Our long-term plan for the Wunlang School Project includes raising enough money to construct an actual building for the primary school. This structure would include eight classrooms and two offices for teachers. We also plan to provide supplies, clean water, and food support for the school; uniforms and shoes for the students; a school health clinic and housing for guests and teachers; and a computer lab to introduce technology to Wunlang and connect students with their counterparts in America. The Special Events/Development Intern is a paid internship beginning as soon as possible. This individual will serve as a member of the fundraising team and will report to a Special Events Manager. The position’s primary focus is to provide support to the fundraising team in the execution and development of special events for the Foundation. The roster of special events that this position will have key roles in includes Lou Gehrig Day at Wrigley Field and ALS Walk4Life. S/he will also support the team in researching prospective sponsorship alliances and other fundraising efforts. At the conclusion of the internship, there is the option to extend the internship duration, dependent upon intern interest and Foundation priorities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
1. Provide support in the coordination of event logistics for Foundation events.
2. Act as primary contact in the planning and support of external (friends/family) fundraising events.
3. Assist with pre- and post-event communications with registered and prospective event participants and team leaders.
4. Collaborate with team in the development and execution of on-event materials (e.g. forms, signage, promotional items).
5. Manage event responses, registrations and donations, including creating and maintaining database files.
6. Maintain Foundation archives of event activities and update local area event listings.
7. Assisting with prospecting for auction donors and soliciting for item donations via the internet and phone calls.
8. Work with Development/Fundraising Associate to research prospective sponsorship alliances, keep up-to-date on ALS and fundraising trends and provide summary to staff.
9. Coordination of mail lists and mailings.
10. Other duties, based on intern interest and Foundation priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS
- College students majoring in marketing, communications, public relations, advertising, non-profit management, business or related field.
- Enrolled in an accredited college or university and be in good academic standing.
- Must be at least of second-year standing.
- Demonstrate strong analytical thinking, problem solving skills and communications skills (both written and oral) with attention to detail.
- Possess an ability to interact professionally with potential donors, external vendors, volunteers and board members.
- Must be a team player, resourceful and creative.
- Minimum commitment of 15-20 hours a week, 12 week commitment desired. Must provide his/her own transportation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Writing sample required (3 page maximum).

Established in 1977, the Les Turner ALS Foundation is one of the nation’s preeminent organizations dedicated to raising funds for the treatment and elimination of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The Foundation has been affiliated with Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine since 1979, where it funds both a clinical care program and world-class scientific research. The Les Turner ALS Foundation’s patient service programs are available to all ALS patients and caregivers in Chicago and the surrounding areas, regardless of where they receive their medical care. These services include support group meetings, professional in-home consultation services, communications and durable medical equipment programs, respite care grants and many educational activities.

Laps for Cystic Fibrosis is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness of cystic fibrosis (CF) and providing financial support in all areas of need for CF research, treatment, care, and improved quality of life.

The most amazing aspect of Laps for CF lies in the story of its humble beginning which is attributed to one truly remarkable young lady, Emily Schreiber.

Emily Schreiber was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis in 2003 at the age of nine. Despite to this surprise to her and her family, she confronted her condition with determination by putting together her first fund-raising event, dubbed Laps for CF, only six weeks after her diagnosis. An avid swimmer for years, Emily's idea for the fundraiser focused on individuals pledging dollar amounts for each lap she would swim.

Now approaching its 6th year, Emily's Laps for CF event has grown from swimming in a small community pool in Birmingham to a major event supported by the swimming and diving programs at the University of Alabama and Auburn University. Laps for CF has recently partnered with The Boomer Esiason Foundation and BioGuard to conduct nationwide swims. Laps for CF also features a variety of other non-swimming related events. What began as Emily's local swim-a-thon is now a successful CF non-profit with a a variety of local and national events: Laps for CF Foundation.

Emily has been highly successful at raising awareness of and funds for cystic fibrosis. She gained the attention and admiration of the national media, including NBC's Today Show, Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated for Kids, American Girl Magazine, and the Crystal Cathedral's Hour of Power, and the Armed Services network.

She received the Association of Fundraising Professionals' National Youth in Philanthropy Award 2008, Vulcan Park's Little Giant Award 2007, Association of Fundraising Professionals' Alabama Chapter Youth in Philanthropy Award 2006, Genentech Heroes of Hope 2006, and Recognition by Resolution from the Jefferson County, AL Commission 2006.

Emily's efforts have now grossed over $1,000,000.

Emily and Laps for CF's priority is to keep funds directly influencing the lives of CF families and improving the local care centers that they frequent. The money raised by Laps for CF is given to State CF Care Centers, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and CF Hope for Alabama.
