The Southside of Chicago can be a very beautiful place, but it can also be a place of horror and sadness. Gage Park High School is located at the intersection of 56th Street and Rockwell Street and includes people of all races and backgrounds. Gage Park High School takes kids from many neighborhoods of Chicago, but dominantley from the Gage Park and Englewood communities. There is high gang activity and we generally lose more than a few students to violence every year and are definately subject to the possiblity of violence everyday.

I would like to start a sand volleyball tournament and cook out at the Band Shelter on 23rd Street in Bettendorf, Iowa this summer. There are two courts there, so we could have two pools of teams playing at once. The champion form each bracket would play in the end. ALL MONEY EARNED WOULD GO INTO BUYING TREES, which would be planted around the city. I am going to try to see if Wallaces Garden Center (or some other local garden center) will sell us trees for a discounted price. If possible, I also would like to hold a barbeque for any hungry people nearby.

A friend and I are going to be starting a two month volleyball camp for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls in our region's middle school. The cost will be $100 per person, for a total of 16 sessions, twice a week, two hours a day, for two months. 50% of the profits will be donated to our high school's volleyball booster club, and 50% will be donated to The Matthew Kenney Skatepark Fund.

Hill Country Starling's Volleyball Club.
Finally an alternative to the expensive "Club" volleyball system. I have been fortunate to have parents who could afford to pay the thousands of dollars that it cost to play competitive volleyball. Unfortunately I have seen hundreds of girls less fortunate than myself.
Judging by their raw athletic ability, I have no doubt that many of these girls could have become impact players and possibly earned college scholarships.
