I have an endocrine disorder called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1. I have had tumors throughout my endocrine system that have caused side effects such as diabetes. Diabetes is a disease that develops when the pancreas stops producing insulin. Insulin is a hormone needed to move glucose (blood sugar). Though diabetes can develop at any age, it usually appears in children and young adults. There is no known cure; however diabetic complications can often be prevented. The first goal of treatment for type 1 diabetes is control blood sugar levels.
