See It: The Community being helped
How it all began In September of 2006 at the local Starbucks an idea that was reoccurring in my mind had finally been discussed came to pass. In the summer of 2006 I attended the Pennsylvania Governor’s School of the Arts for Performance Theater and since the completion of the program all of its students had to give back to the community. I wanted to create a theater company that would speak multitudes to Philadelphia, not just certain people. My colleague, Angela and I founded My Vision Theater Ensemble and started having auditions at our school, the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts. Only 15 people showed up to our audition and only 10 remained with us. With vigorous classes and rehearsals led by us we were able to create a new movement of theater by young artists for every background. On December 1, 2006 our very first show, Trapped, that we wrote, produced and directed on our own. Trapped received a lot of reviews and even an encore performance, but because of our lack of funds a second show wasn’t possible. Since then we have learned what hard work there is into producing your own show, naturally it motivated me keep my vision theater ensemble going on for as long as it can. We are dedicated in continuing this movement of young artists making a statement in the theater. With all of our goals and aspiration My Vision Theater Ensemble has a bigger and better season, Trapped Vol.2: A Society, The Zoo Story by Edward Albee and Skye’s the Limit. Our Mission Statement My Vision Theater Ensemble is an after school theater company at the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts for students interested in the art of theater. The actors and writers of the ensemble create original provocative scripts that branch out in many subjects from domestic violence to sensitive topics like abortion. This ensemble was founded and is run by young artists of tomorrow. We go through every aspect of producing, fundraising and promoting a play. My Vision Theater Ensemble is the foundation for young actors and directors to cultivate their art with passion and persistence. We plan to become an established independent non profit organization by the summer of 2008 and plan to become one of America’s premiere theater companies. We also plan to reach out to other schools and communities to inspire inner city youth. Classes My Vision Theater Ensemble main focus is creating reality on the stage, not illusion. We utilize certain techniques to enhance the imagination of the actors. The purpose for these classes is to train our actors for potential careers in the arts. Our curriculum is essential for our productions. · Scene study and monologues ( Miesner and Stanislavski) · Physical theater ( Grotowski method) · Neutral mask (Lecoq) · Structured Improvs · African dance · Directing styles( Clurman) · Script analysis · Playwriting ****If you would like to see us in action go to www.myvisiontheater.blogspot.com and check out our videos for future updates ****
