LIFEBLOOD MINISTRIES - Exchanging our blood for the lives of orphans

Because of extreme poverty, children are sold on the streets of Hyderabad, India for $10-15 and used as laborers in fields and factories, prostitutes in brothels, and human sacrifices in Hindu temples. The male/female ratio is off because parents kill their infant daughters rather than face paying a wedding dowry in the future. The Banjara Tribe is particularly vulnerable, as they are considered "untouchables" in the culture, 90% of them are illiterate, and most are born into the debt bondage that has enslaved their ancestors for generations.

global youth connect

For this project I am trying to have to earn $2,500. This money will fund a trip to Jordan to help Iraqi refugees in the Middle East. After a three month visit, I return to school and stay involved in the project for another 3 months by educating the community, fund raising and planning events to talk about the refugee situation in Jordan. This project will affect my local community and the international community.

Concerts for Humanity

Concerts for Humanity is a student-run organization at Long Beach Polytechnic. The objective of this club is to raise funds to aid world poverty and victims of AIDS. We do so by organizing benefit concerts and other events. All the proceeds will be part of the efforts to end world poverty and AIDS. We also aim to inform the student body about this much needed cause. We stress the importance of giving to those less fortunate than we are. We work with the ONE Campaign, Bread for the World, World Vision and their partners. Currently, we are sponsoring a boy named Marvin Vindel in the Honduras.

La Romana Mission

I am a student at UMASS-Dartmouth who began a volunteer project and is slowly bringing into a full-time project following my graduation. This project takes place in La Romana, Dominican Republic where Haitians leave extreme poverty only to find themselves in extreme poverty. These people live and work in sugarcane fields seven days per week for fourteen hours a day making as little as $10. They have no electricity, no running water, no medical care, very little food and little education. Ailments such as malnutrition, HIV, malaria and typhoid are a huge part of this scenario.

SUFRIR stands for Students United for Immigrant Rights (SUFRIR) and it is the student component of Voces de la Frontera. SUFRIR is an opportunity for students to civically engage in the issues that matter most to them and their families. The first chapter of SUFRIR was formed in Racine at Horlick High School in 2004. SUFRIR students in Racine participated in campaigns for drivers licenses, in state tuition for undocumented students, and comprehensive immigration reform. SUFRIR students have participated in lobbying trips to Madison and Washington D.C.
