I'll try to upload her speech tomorrow. It was short and humble, giving thanks to the other women in the room and freeing everyone to go eat dinner, as she was the final award of the night. "Now let's go eat, shall we?"
- Elizabeth Edwards, cancer fighter and wife of presidential candidate John Edwards got a special introduction from her three kids, Jack, Emma Claire, and Cate. Jack was hilarious. He kept checking himself out on the monitor and getting distracted by shiny things in the theatre. BRICK Award winner Lance Armstrong stepped on stage to give Ms. Edwards her award:
- Mariane Pearl, journalist, activist, and widow of slain journalist Daniel Pearl, also received an award. Played by Angelina Jolie in the film A Mighty Heart -- based off of Mariane's book by the same name -- Mariane is a voice of peace and resiliance, refusing to be kept down by fear or oppression. She continues to travel and write and is active with Amnesty International. The beginning of this video is a little shakey. She jokes about needing to use her notes make her speech . . .
- The four women who are currently serving as presidents of Ivy League Universities got their awards from presenters Brooke Sheilds (Princeton alumn) and Rashida Jones (Harvard alumn). The are:

Urth Simmons, president of Brown University
Shirley Tilghman, president of Princeton University
President Faust told young people in the room:
Education today is about women's empowerment. There are many parts of the world where that is not yet the truth. . . . Whatever you do, dream high, aim high, and be bold in how you plan your future.
- Organic farmer and celebrity chef/restauranteur Alice Waters accepted her award from frield and writer Norah Efron. In her video clip, a colleague said, "She was green before green was green!"

In her acceptance speech, Alice said:
People talk about global warming and they don't think about where our food comes from. . . . The moral choices you make happen to be the most delicious ones.
-
Finally, golf phenomenon Lorena Ochoa took the stage in an amazing backless dress and showed her gratitude for the award and her good fortune. Rather than spending her winnings on designer bags or first class flights, she sends every penny possible back to help children in her hometown of Guadelahara, Mexico.
