NEW YORK, March 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Teens throughout the US and Canada joined forces in their schools and communities for teen retailer Aeropostale, Inc. (ARO: 23.515 +0.465 +2.02%) and DoSomething.org’s 4th Annual “Teens for Jeans” campaign. This year, 542,000 jeans were collected bringing the campaign’s four year total to over 1.2 million jeans collected for homeless teens.
Charity organization DoSomething.org has named Lady Gaga No. 1 on its new “Top 20 Celebrities Gone Good” list due to her outstanding work as a gay rights activist in the last year.
The pop singer publicly called for the repeal of the US military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy months ago, which was signed by President Obama on December 22. She was also very outspoken in her support of same-sex marriage and raised money towards HIV/AIDS prevention worldwide.
In a world of celebrities behaving badly, these 20 stars balanced things out.
Lady Gaga, a leader in gay-rights issues, takes the No. 1 spot on a new list of the "Top 20 Celebs Gone Good" in 2010, honoring stars for their charity work. Alicia Keys, who is devoted to fighting HIV and AIDS, was the runner-up.
Rounding out the top 10 are Taylor Swift, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, Ellen DeGeneres, Nick Jonas, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Oprah Winfrey and Justin Bieber.
‘Tis the season for giving – and Lady Gaga knows that best. The Grammy-award winning singer earned the number one spot on DoSomething.org’s list of the “Top 20 Celebs Gone Good” in 2010.
Lady Gaga broke into the political sphere this year with her support of gay rights and call for the repeal of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.” She also hosted the “Hands Up For Marriage Equality Event” and modeled for MAC Viva Glam, donating all the proceeds to HIV/AIDS prevention.
