United States Pony Club Knowledge Flash Cards

My community is currently the Middle California Region Pony Clubs. My flash cards have been given to the regional supervisor and hopefully she will be able to distrubute them. I am still looking for an cheap and easy way to print, laminate and bind the cards so that they will last longer. The Pony Clubbers will often be studying in a barn environment and the more protected the cards are the better. I am hoping to expand my community to all the Pony Clubs in the Nation.

A Horse's Friend

A Horse's Friend is a program that allows inner-city children and adolescents the opportunity to learn respect, responsibility, and decision making skills by working with horses. Not only do participants learn how to feed, groom, and tack horses, but they also get the opportunity to ride. What a great opportunity for kids who otherwise might not ever ride a horse! After the initial sessions, kids are invited back to work as mentors to their peers thereby creating an even greater sense of responsibility and accomplishment.

Volunteering at McKenna Farms Hippotherapy Services, Inc.

I have volunteered to lead horses during hippotherapy sessions at McKenna Farms in Dallas, GA for many months now. I has been a real joy to get to know the patients, mostly children, and to watch them improve through their disabilities. It has so given me great experience in dealing with horses- experience I'll need if I'm going to achieve my dream of becoming a veterinarian. I love it. I get to get the horses out of the field, groom them, tack them up, and lead them around the arena during sessions.

Looking up to me

I am a 17 year old girl living in a town with almost nothing to offer for kids my age. Several kids here are on drugs just because they think there is nothing better to do. I have barrel raced for 3 or 4 years. When I first started out barrel racing I noticed my cousin and I were basically the only girls around here that raced. Over the years more and more kids were starting to compete. I have noticed how many kids have stared at me in awe and told me how much they would love to be just like me. I won the barrel racing high-point trophy for two years in a row.
