The Toyota Prius has been named the Green Car of the Year for the last five years by Consumer Reports, and the EPA says it gets a whopping 46 miles per gallon.
With gas prices so insanely high, the hybrid appears to be a great way for a driver to be friendly to the environment and lower her carbon footprint, but a recent report argues otherwise.

I work at a school on a military base in Oahu, HI. Many of my students do not get off base often, and feel disconnected from their community. After talking with local nursing homes, I have found that many of the senior citizens who reside there receive little to no visitors. I see this as an opportunity for my students to get involved and learn how valuable service to your community can be, while improving the activity level and quality of life of senior citizens.

While interning at a nonprofit organization in my home town I came to realize a problem that the nonprofit industry has been talking about for a long time: nonprofit organizations tend to be behind in technological literacy. This causes them to loose time struggling to use computers as well as loosing time on tasks that can be much more quickly and easily done on a computer. A recent study by the Nonprofit Technology Network found that over half of nonprofit organizations thought they were understaffed when it came to IT (Nonprofit IT Staffing, 2006).

We are the F.I.R.S.T Robotics team, 1885, aka, "The Robocats," from Battlefield High School in Haymarket Virginia. Our team's mission is to spread science, robotics, and technology to as many students as possible. We strive to inspire students from grades k-5, all the way to seniors in high school, to become interested in science and technology.
Recently we placed second at the Richmond regional qualifier, receiving the "Engineering Inspiration" award for our support to the community. With this award we have also qualified to go to the World Championship in Atlanta Georgia.

Our purpose here at Science Days is to provide female middle school students an after-school program which focuses on science and mathematics. Females, especially minorities, are under-represented in many higher learning institutions majoring in science and mathematics. The future of the world will be placed upon the shoulders of our future engineers, scientists, mathematicians, etc. The current and potential problems that the world will face within the next decade will directly affect this generation.

The Stanford Persuasive Technology Lab believes that change in the world begins with a shift in our attitudes and behaviors. Through persuasive technologies- from websites to mobile phones- we can design applications to enhance and promote world harmony. In 2005 we completed an initial investigation into technologies designed to promote peace. We are opening this project anew, starting with a Stanford class on “Peace Technology,” scheduled for early 2008.

At the Honey Project, Improving Lives Couldn't Be Sweeter! Operated by 15 high school students (Partners), who were among the 62 that graduated from a 12-week intensive entrepreneurship training program, the Honey Project is a youth-oriented business venture. The students import organic honey from Western Africa, Agogo-Ghana, and market the product in the US with 50% of all honey revenues re-invested into Ghana as Actual Investment Dollars (A.I.D.), redefining the concept of AID.

Free culture at NYU is a chapter of a national student movement exploring the nature of innovation in the context of American Copyright law and media distribution. Free Culture is dedicated to the promotion of thoughtful and progressive discourse and debate, as well as relevant social activism. We stand behind the principles of a “common sense” approach to intellectual property rights as presented by Lawrence Lessig in his book “Free Culture”. We hope to serve those members of the NYU community with an intent in preserving an open exchange of creative issues.

Founded in July 2006, the United Aeronautics and Spaceflight Orgization (UASO) is a third generation virtual space agency aimed at simulating, with the highest realism possible, manned and unmanned spaceflight operations. To carry out these operations, we use a very realistic spaceflight simulator called Orbiter, created by Martin Schweiger.
What is the goal of the UASO? The UASO strives to provide the ultimate experience for those who wish to learn more about astronomy and space exploration, by simulating the every day operations of a space agency while online.

There is a need in our community that has developed over the last decade that has been steadily ignored in the dogged pursuit to maintain the status quo. This need is for a community arts center that has evolved to meet the needs for a new kind of community – a community that has become centered on the latest technological advances. We have moved our style of communication and our sense of community to text messages, emails, and social networking websites.
