Green real estate is taking over

By 2012, green building could represent 20% of the market, reports the Daily Green. This is shocking news in a real estate economy that’s seeing tough times.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Green Building Conference revealed the study that focused on changes in green building activity between 2001 and 2007. The findings far exceeded expectations.

A new high school for the youth of South Maui

Aloha, howzit going? I will start by telling a little about the community that I currently live in and why this is a major and important issue that needs to be solved in my community for the youth of the future. I live in Kihei, HI on the island of Maui. Hawaii is the most isolated archipelago in the world and yet we still manage to stay connected to the rest of the world, problems that occur on the mainland will also effect us. Currently the city of Kihei does not have a “real” high school. There are however two elementary schools and dozens of daycares.

spread trees

On some property in the county area surrounding a growing city, two friends and I will raise saplings native to the area grown sustainably in the shade of larger trees and sell them to the city dwellers who are suffering from the distruction of sudden urban deforestation such as landslides, wind throw, and depleted landscapes. We will also offer the sale of plants and other native wildlife and plant them to get the best use out of an area and use methods that require less reliance on city water, fertilizers and extra maintenance.

Youth Hydrogen

Hi, My name is Simon Pickup, President and Founder of Youth Hydrogen. Here's a little bit about Youth Hydrogen: In grade four, the question-premise I chose for my science fair project was “How do we solve the fuel problem?” My answer was that hydrogen was the solution, and I built an electrolyser (a device which uses electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen) as part of a display that laid out how it could be done.

WDA Sadhana Clean Water Project

The Sadhana Clean Water Project is addressing the obstacles to clean water access in rural India. With 1.25 billion people, India has the second largest global population. 226 million of these people do not have access to safe water. In the state of Maharastra in western India, and the site for our conference, approximately 700,000 people contract water-related diseases annually. The problem of clean water access is further exacerbated by competition for the limited supplies available. Demand for water in India is expected to double by 2025.
