Krafty Kids is a non profit organization in Miami, Florida. Our group consists of four high school freshmen, but new members are always welcomed. We believe that every child should have a memory of making something creative with their own hands, because everyone deserves to enjoy their childhood. We plan out and preform activities with the children in Miami's hospitals and we also donate money to St. Jude Research Hospital.
Krafty Kids began as a class assignment but has turned into much more than that, and we need your help to help make our dream a reality.

Deafness is the most common disability in the United States. Cochlear implants are an amazing technology that can restore a sense of hearing to many people affected by hearing loss, enabling them to learn to listen, speak, enjoy music, learn a foreign language, talk on the phone, succeed in mainstream education classes without the use of a sign language interpreter, and overall live happy, successful, productive lives just like anyone else! My friend, Rachel Chaikof, was one of the first children in the United States to receive a cochlear implant as part of the FDA clinical trials in 1989.

I want a grant so I can buy gifts for kids in the hospital, or who were in hurricane katrina around my area. I want to make them gift baskets and send it to them so they won't be bored in the hospital. If they had things destroyed in Hurrican Katrina they got everything important to them gone. They would now have a stuffed animal, clothes, and a game or two. I'd like to help everyone out.

Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world; while the media covers it, it still remains forgotten. Quite recently, Africa has obtained a lot of aid and media coverage for AIDS virus, Darfur, poverty, ect. Yet Afghanistan remains in a shadow, only shown on today's media for terrorism.
The children of Afghanistan suffer from not only a poor country, but one stuck in the center of a deadly war. They've grown up to the sound of gunshots and bombs, and to the feeling of fear. Many themselves have been caught in a bombing or shooting, and now suffer life damage.

When you're in a hospital room it gets pretty boring no matter how many games the volunteers bring in or how much control you have over the TV. Usually it's pretty boring and you find yourself wishing to go outside and play a sport or hang out with friends. After you're in the hospital for a few weeks or a few months you start to give up hope and feel as though you're losing connections with the world around you except for the hospital. That's what we're here for.

Alejandra is a 7 year old girl who started a recycling program at her school, donated her hair to locks for love and she is now starting a non-profit charity. The charity is collecting brand new bears and hard cover books for children in hospitals. Her first stop will be Lucille Packard children's ward in Ca. She will start to donate the bears and books to more hospitals and eventually to shelters.
