I started Students Helping Students (initially called'Project Hope')in September 2005 as a student-run organization to assist Louisiana schools impacted by Hurricane Katrina. At that time, more than 150,000 children were left without schools or even basic supplies. More than 2 years later, the New Orleans school system is still struggling to revive, and a tremendous need for assistance remains. So far, Students Helping Students has sent books and supplies to help the following 16 Louisiana schools: Westwood Elementary, J.D. Clifton Elementary, Moss Bluff Elementary, M.J.

When I was younger the one thing that excited me about returning to school was shopping for back to school supplies. Floral print notebooks, gel pens, and cool folders were enough to make me anxious to hurry off to school and use them. The right supplies make tackling any project a breeze, and it helps you to look forward to doing it.

In Lake Providence,Louisiana where I stay; IĀ Lincoln donated some school supplies to the local elementary schools, because some of those kids were in need of school supplies. I started my journey out at Northside Elementary School, where I donated a box full of school supplies. I took a picture for the paper, holding the box in my hand, handing it to the teacher of the preschoolers. The last school I donated school supplies to was Southside Elementary were I donated two full boxes of school supplies because there are way more childrenĀ in this school.
