For many years now, The Daytona Beach area has been immersed in expensive tourist traps that were meant to boost the economy. Unfortunatley, over time, this has not been successful, and the locals have had to face their fair share of let downs financially. The Daytona Playhouse gives the community an opportunity to overlook this in their lives and allows them to be apart of something wether they are in the audience, behined the scenes, or on stage providing laughter to the fellow community members that have fallen under hard times.

I have just returned from an educational stay in South Africa where I taught in a colored township. During my stay in South Africa I realized how small the world is becoming. As the world gets smaller and more connected, we need to encourage our students to embrace diversity and understand different cultures. Many of my students in South Africa were severely impoverished with hopes and dreams. Everyday my students in South Africa experience poverty, hardship, abuse and so much more. Therefore I had the idea to do something different and special for students.

We are looking for good people who want to be a part of growing goodness in their communities. On 8/8/08 Growing In Goodness is having their annual Nations of Service Day. The project theme this year is A Million And One. Our goal is to have A Million And One volunteers serving on this day. By focusing on the million, we are trying to get a large number of people serving one another to grow the goodness in the world.

This year’s District 5170 International Project will be within the Rotary family, minimizing the dollars used on administrative costs – in other words, every penny of your money will be spent helping the needy! We will be fundraising for three projects on three continents, spreading our love farther than ever before. The first continent we will hit is Africa. Last year, we were able to donate mosquito nets and toys to a village in Ghana. This year, we will partner up with Rotaractors in Ghana to build and furnish a school – from scratch – for a village.

In an effort to engage youth in Allegany County, the Red Cross Club provides youth with various community service opportunities. With the guidance of the Allegany County Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Club completes projects dealing with disaster response and preparedness, health and safety services, blood drives and community involvement with other local agencies.
Up to now, projects have been very small and easily completed within the time span of one meeting.

The Urban Survival Project aims to provide an open source portal of condensed and key information for young people struggling to get through education or work. It will hopefully achieve this by enabling a socially networked pool of young professionals over the web who can not only help provide support and bring this information together, but also become an open volunteer resource for social organisations in general. The four key themes will probably be as follows: Surviving Education, Surviving Work, Surviving Small Businesses, and Surviving Life.

Youth Entertaining Seniors is to be an organization that will connect with Senior Citizens who live in retirement homes. Many Senior Citizens are not visited often by existing relatives, and many have no living relatives left. Therefore, it is the duty of those involved in Youth Entertaining Seniors to make these seniors feel that they are loved.

Over the past few years, Nicaragua has experienced a severe economic crisis that has left people of all ages and socio-economic classes in situations of severe need. However, with Hillel’s alternative spring, my peers and I will have the chance to work for Nicaragua’s youth, peasant population, and the broader Nicaraguan community in volunteer service projects.

Helping out the community or volunteering can sometimes seem difficult to get started in, especially if you have never tried it out before.ME³ stands for Motivate, Educate, Empower, and Engage. Our goal is to make being an empowered citizen and getting involved in helping the community as easy and fulfilling as possible. That’s what our program, Communities In Action (CIA), is all about.CIA is a 'databank' of individuals in Wake County, NC, who have signed up to get involved in helping the community become a brighter, happier place to live for everybody.
