It is difficult for children today to make the right choices when it comes to healthy eating, especially in an urban setting. Just down the street from our elementary school are two pizza shops, a McDonald's, Taco Bell, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Simply walking home from school in need of a snack will undoubtedly tempt them to eat something with high fat content and little nutritional value. Many parents are uneducated about proper nutrition and pass along poor eating habits to their children. When picking a child up from school, it is all too easy to cruise through the drive-in window.

We are helping save children from malnutrition worldwide as well as victims of natural disasters.
What we are really trying to do is get people excited about giving and helping make the world a little more pleasant.

The amount of products in food banks across America are at an all time low because of high costs for shipping and a weakening economy. Because of this shortage, it is important for citizens to take a role in replenishing the supply in their local food banks.

Our small town of Granby, CT is a rural-type suburb and we are donating to and trying to educate the public about adoption vs. buying pets, spay and neuter, indoor cats, leash laws, puppy mills, etc. We hope to be able to make a difference in the lives of pets with our friends, have fun. A fundraiser party is tentatively scheduled for the summer and events will not end with summer vacation.

It is extremely important to keep our environment clean and sanitary. My project involves cleaning up the playgrounds in the McHenry county area. Groups of volunteers would meet at one of the parks on a Saturday morning, ready to work. The jobs would include picking up garbage, taking out the trash and refilling the bags, washing the playground itself, and anything else. Afterwards, everyone would eat lunch together. Each person, family, or group of students would bring a dish of their choice and share it with everyone. This day would be fun and exciting.

The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota is home to thousands of Lakota Indian people. Unfortunately, it is also home to a huge drug problem that effects everyone. Children and adults alike die from drug related causes everyday. I am apart of a small group of people here in Pine Ridge who are working towards bringing something positive to the reservation. The way that we hope to do this is through music. We would like support in putting on a drug awareness concert- free and open to everyone. We are planning to have positive messages, music, art and free food.

We will hold several tag days outside of local vendors, asking people to donate pet food, pet toys, or anything else "pet-related," so that we can donate the items to our local Humane Shelter. Our main goal will be pet food. A lot of the dogs and cats have lack of a decent meal, with our donation, we are hoping to have no scarcity in their bowls at supper time. However, toys will also be a focus. The animals love something to play around with or even just have something soft to cuddle up with.

|I along with my Girl Scout Troop #239 have started a food Pantry for our school district. we have earned over |$450.00 and spent that on food and other items to help the needy people in our community. Now that food is almost gone and we need to keep it up. We have many things planned to help raise funds to buy more food. we are doing a shamrock sale for $1.00, and are going to be doing a mom 2 mom sale in the winter to help with raising funds for our pantry. We can feed one family for 2 weeks on |$50.00. we want to be able to help 10 to 15 people a week.
