The mission of Jer's Vision: Canada's Youth Diversity Initiative (the Jeremy Dias Foundation) is to support youth who are addressing issues of discrimination in their schools and communities. Discrimination is still a major problem in Canada, and youth are part of the solution. The potential of youth is all too often overlooked, and we want to change that.

I have met my hero! My name is Megan Stewart-Felt, and in 1999, I began work with friends on a drama presentation in my small high school. I knew that I wanted to learn more about the Holocaust and in searching for topics I stumbled across a short article about a woman that saved over 2,500 Jewish children. This unsung hero of the Holocaust is Irena Sendler and she is 97 years old this year.

Imagine high school students who have been failed out of schools educating teachers and state policy makers about educational inequality. Imagine students who have been incarcerated, live amidst poverty, violence, and have dozens of friends who have been killed; imagine these excluded students teaching state legislators about how state education policy frames their lives.

Project Alliance

Project Alliance is the area's (Fulton/Montgomery Counties, New York) first group dedicated specifically or otherwise to supporting LGBTQ (Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender/Questioning) youth, and raising public awareness in respect to the social pressures faced by said youth.

Currently Project Alliance is communicating and working with local school districts in an attempt to form Gay Straight Alliances with in schools. GSA have a proven record of effectiveness in easing some of the pressures faced by teens who identify as being a sexual minority.

My project is in development right now. The group currently involves me and a few other friends. I don't have enough information to describe us just yet because such a description is still in the form of being created. However, we represent equality in a town not so equal. More to come all too soon.

Creative Community Cooperation is bringing everyone in the community together to discuss our community's issues and work out solutions for them. Throughout this process we are going to be talking about our community, its issues and possible solutions to those issues and create a mural to depict these conversations. The mural will be a visual representation of our fears, hopes and dreams for our community.

TAFFY

Two years ago, some friends and I started a group at our school called Tolerance, Acceptance, and Fairness for the Free-thinking Youth (TAFFY Club). The first year we had trouble with the school administration, and not much happened. This last year, however, went great. We now have 30 members, and we are still growing. We participated in "Mix It Up at Lunch Day", we had a fundraiser for orphans around the world, and we organized a community art show. We also discussed tolerance issues in our school during monthly meetings.
