See It: The Community being helped
Breakthrough Fort Lauderdale is a non-profit organization devoted to serving the educational needs of talented, but under-resourced middle school students in the Fort Lauderdale area. We provide extra schooling on weekends and during the summer to our wonderful students. We are also a branch of the national Breakthrough Collaborative (www.breakthroughcollaborative.org). After a few years of involvement several volunteers and the directors noticed that there was an apparent lack in the help being provided to our students, namely that the parents weren't being educated thoroughly on the opportunities available to their kids. Several volunteers banded together to organize a conference to educate the parents with experts in several fields relating to adolescence, educational opportunities, etc. in order to fill this void. The conference is scheduled for Feb. 9, 2008 from 9 - 12. We hope that the approximately 150 parents will be in attendance in order to further the educational interests of their kids.
