Ben Jelen Rocks Earth Day

CGG caught up with Ben Jelen on his way to do a Free Green concert on Earth Day in NYC at a Replay store. Ben's a total cutie and stopped to answer a few questions:

CGG: Why earth day? Why is this your big issue?

Ben: It's a big issue because our planet is everything.

CGG: What kinds of things do you do?

Ben: I bike everywhere, recycle EVERYTHING at home and on tour. I also tour in a biodeisel bus. I wish I could compost more, but I live in Brooklyn and it's too difficult.
Protect the environment-- Help CUESA be Waste Wise!

The Center for Urban about Sustainable Agriculture is proud to launch it's new Waste Wise Farmers Market. In an effort green the market, we're introducing custom-made Waste Wise stations and informational displays. To ensure every can, plate, fork and crumb makes it to the right place, we'll need a team of volunteer monitors each week. As a Waste Wise station monitor, not only will you help divert tons of resources from a landfill, you'll also help educate thousands of shoppers about being waste wise-- without getting dirty!

University of Wyoming Earth Day Projects

As a finale to a week of Earth Day events (including sustainability awareness panels, speakers, and fairs)
UW students will have the opportunity to volunteer on a number of environmentally based service projects.

A crew of 50 students will spend the day planting in the ACRES Student Farm. A second crew of students will pick up trash on and in the neighborhoods surrounding campus. A final crew will lay the groundwork for an herb garden that will be planted near the Washakie Dining Center.

Green Oakland Fair

Green Oakland Fair is going to be the first annual fair emphasizing the importance of going green in Oakland County, Michigan. I have collaborated with my county's Conservation District to make this ground breaking event happen. Saturday April 19th is their Annual Spring Tree Sale Pick up date, which also happens to be the weekend before Earth Day. We decided to work together and take advantage of the near 500 Oakland County residents that will be picking up their trees and spread the green message.

Do It In The Dark

This will ideally be an electricity-free party that promotes energy conservation amongst residents and sets an example for the campus. We will be offering food, drinks, live music (acoustic music), glow in the dark memorabilia, organic t-shirts, and eco-friendly transportation demos and test drives. We would like to hand out flyers/magnets with conservation tips and well as offer environmentally friendly organizations to do petitions.
