Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in world, due to much external and internal conflict. Though the situation in Cambodia has stabilized, modern agricultural techniques are largely non-existent, and most farming is done at a subsistence level, with rice constituting 92 percent of food production (ruralpovertyportal.org). According to the World Food Programme, 35 percent of the population is malnourished. Education on productive, sustainable, diverse organic farming is needed to improve health and increase food security while not causing environmental degradation in Cambodia.

Shoes4Africa, Inc (www.help4africa.com) is a non-profit organization that I founded last summer. Initially a county-wide, but recently international campaign, S4A accomplishes its goal through the recollection of shoes in diverse cities of the US and eight countries around the world to be shipped to the République de Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria and other African nations, where many people walk barefoot and some have never owned a pair of shoes.

Los Patriotas, El Club de Español, is a community service club. In short, the students of Sullivan East High School's Spanish Club, Bluff City, Tennessee, discuss and vote on projects they want to support during the school year. The members have decided that for the Fall of the 2007/2008 school year they would like to adopt a community in the Dominican Republic, in particular, the community of Puerto Plata.

We are planning to start a Campus Kitchen at the College of William and Mary modeled after the DC Central Kitchen and affiliated with the connected Campus Kitchen Project (http://www.campuskitchens.org/). The goal is to take unused food from local restaurants and grocery stores and repackage it as healthy meals for non-profit organizations in the surrounding area. That way we involve the community by working within the existing framework of hunger assistance and by bringing in local businesses.

Helping 100 plans to build connections to the community in ways that illuminate an important social issue – homelessness. 3.5 million of our fellow Americans (39% of which are children) have to live out their lives homeless due to situations that may have been out of their own control. They have to sacrifice their safety and their health by living out in the cold streets. Because Americans across the nation and even in our community are unaware of our current health crisis and the sheer numbers of people that have to survive on the streets, many Americans fail to lend a helping hand.

My Dad and I have started a BMX racing team in our community. Dad is helping me to contact Foster Care, Integral Youth Services, The Angel Project, Child Development, the local military base and other orgaizations to reach children who are going though problems in their lives. They may be from families with gang orientation, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, abuse, divorce, deployment or parent death. These children may have emotional or physical problems.

I will be walking from Tampa to Tallahasse. 250 miles to bring awareness to the 1.6 million homeless kids in this country. 13 of those kids die everyday wih out ever knowing someone really cares. November is to become National Homeless Youth Awareness month and this will be the first year. I want to bring awareness to the crisis and for people to see that it is important enough to me to give up a month of my life to help this cause by walking. Others are planning on walking 1 day with me or a couple days with me.

The goal of this program is to provide a safe, fun place for community teens to meet and study, use computers, watch tv., eat, and learn about tolerance and diversity. This room is a part of the Wetherington Boys and Girls Club in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Currently there is no place in the building provided for teens to meet. They have no teens who attend.
We are remodeling a room and have been successful in making it a community effort. I serve on the NLR Mayor's Youth Coucnil and started this effort as my community project.

Aprendiendo Inglés Sólido (AIS), which translates to “Learning Solid English,” was founded in 2002 at the Atlanta International School in Atlanta, GA as a community service group to meet the needs of the Hispanic Primary school community in Atlanta, GA. In addition to running successfully for five years in Atlanta, AIS has now started a chapter at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut to continue catering to the needs of the Hispanic Primary School community.
