Last year I signed up to go on a mission trip with my church. After meeting with the delegation and learning about the community we would be visiting I decided that I should make health kits for the families. Along with two other girls I collected donations, raised awareness about Guatemala and the struggles they face, and put together a total of 28 health kits. We made two health kits for each household, One for kids, this one had light up toothbrushes, colorful band-aides, kids vitamins, and other health supplies geared towards children. We also made adult kits with similar items.

There are an estimated 15,000 people in Austin, TX that are homeless. In the summer when temperatures are normally in the high 90s to over 100 degrees, even something as simple as having a bottle of water to properly hydrate one's self is not always available to those who are forced to live on the street . Many of us take for granted our ability to just walk into a store and purchase a bottle of water, walk to the sink in our apartment or home, or even use the water fountain inside of retail establishments.

CISV is a non-profit, volunteer based organization that promotes cultural and global understanding through youths by sending them abroad to different camps. Through this organization I have had the opportunity to broaden my views of the world by traveling to Thailand, living with a family for three weeks, and Egypt, living at a campsite with thirty-five other campers from nine other countries.

Tucker, my husband was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in the spring of 2006. One of the most devastating effects of the disease is not knowing how you got it, or exactly how to cure it. Unable to answer some of these hard questions, we turned to health issues that we are able to control – healthy eating habits and regular exercise.

Trying to cook healthy and buy healthy grocceries are one thing. However, we all get caught eating convienent food here and there. Some of us more often than others. Fast food is very popular world-wide. Billions of people eat unhealthy fast food every week. This food is of the lowest quality, conventional produce, low-grade meat. 70 years ago, there was no difference between organic and non-organic food. After serious chemical spraying from 1940-1979, finding truly natural and organic food is different in quality.
