Nevada has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the country as well as the highest high school drop-out rate in the country. Given the anything-goes tourist culture in Las Vegas as well as the lack of comprehensive sexuality education in southern Nevada schools, this doesn't seem to be a coincidence. Young women in southern Nevada are given neither the information nor the opportunities they need to protect themselves and their futures.

Mission: The event will develop youth into community leaders through cultivation of individual strengths, team work, and leadership training.

Location: McKinny Roughs Nature Park

Nature of the Project:
The objectives of the project are to:
 Train approximately 50 youth in leadership techniques and club management including publicity, fundraising, member development, and organizational structure.
 Guide youth to discover and develop their strengths and recognize their weakness as leaders and organization members

Students Advocating Darfur Awareness: Genocide Awareness Week

During this week I used my club, Students Advocating Darfur Awareness, to raise money by going from class to class and giving presentations on the current state of affairs in Sudan. I also had wristbands made, which said "Genocide Awareness: Are you doing your part?" and sold them in order to raise money which we then donated to SaveDarfur.org. At then end of the week we held a large movie presentation where we showed a video on Darfur and the movie Invisible Children in order to further spread.

Turning Point Youth Collective is a non-profit youth organization in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Our mission:
To provide the Daytona Beach area with resources and space for producing all-ages music events and creating music related cultural products; empowering youth through alternative leadership development opportunities including a youth-directed model encouraging leadership through open governance practices and erasing the line between the people serving and being served; to actively improve the social well-being of Daytona Beach area youth through civic engagement.

HELPRZ Club (Humanitarian, Education, and Leadership Projects in Rural Zambia)

HELPRZ is a club of high school students from Steamboat Springs, Colorado going to Zambia, Africa to complete service projects. I am Lennae Jenkins, club leader and Steamboat High School graduate. I lived in Zambia twice: working at a chimpanzee sanctuary and building a school for the local kids who's families work at the sanctuary. I raised over $15,000 for the building of the school. While i was there, I worked with the people to build the school and I hired a local teacher to teach.

It is a model that enables students to reflect, create and fulfill action plans while building a voice that empowers and is shaped by community. Imagine a new generation of citizen activists bridging our nation’s North and South divide, raising their voices on important public issues, and enlisting community leaders and educators as partners in the civic and political life of their communities.
