Presidential candidates face off in first debate

Barack Obama and John McCain participated in their first presidential debate on Friday evening, taking on topics like foreign policy, national security and the current economic crisis.

New poll breaks down race and politics

The results of a new ABC News/USA Today/Columbia University poll show divides among the races, in vote choices, issue concerns, life experiences and
identity. A random sample of 1,941 adults, 1,032 blacks and 315 Hispanics, were interviewed for the poll on race, politics and society. Here are some of the results:


Student accused of hacking Palin's email

Police are investigating the son of a Democratic politician who they say may have hacked into vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's email. Local TV stations in Tennessee say authorities have searched the home of 20-year-old student David Kernell, son of state congressman Mike Kernell.

David and his father have not spoken about the case, but their lawyer says it's a difficult time for the family.


Voting begins

Election Day isn’t until November 4, but thanks to early voting rules, some voters have already cast their ballots. A couple of counties in Virginia and Kentucky allowed voting late last week, and voting begins in Georgia today.

Ellen brought Republican frontrunner John McCain on her show and confronted the elephant in the room: gay marriage.
