I want to build a walking track around our playground to help improve the health and fitness of the students at my school and the health and fitness of the community around our school.
The plan is to build a 1/4 mile track around our playground. If we raise enough money we will enlarge the track to almost 1 mile.

I've noticed that many people when going to the mall drive around and around to find a parking place close to the entrance OR they sit with the car idling to run the air conditioning. Not a bad idea to hit a parking space way out and, are you ready for this?, walk. Ok, so you save a half a cup of gas. Not much but, multiply that by a a gazilion cars and maybe it does add up. Saving gas, not breathing exhaust fumes and walking. It's all good.

Childhood obesity is becoming a huge problem in our community. Harmony Elementary, in Oldham County, Kentucky would like to incorporate a fittness path on it's North Oldham campus to help off set this growth. Harmony shares this campus with a middle school and a high school. Neighborhoods also border the campus, thus the community can make good use of the develped trail. We would like this trail to be educational, with sign posts and mile markers, as well as benefitial for fittness. It should appeal to all ages, from newborns in strollers to elderly and physically handicapped individuals.

We would like to encourage students to take charge of their health by having a 3K fun run as part of our school's wellness program. Currently we teach on the importance of eating healthy and exercising. We all learn best by doing therefore; we would like to challenge our students and faculty to get fit with a 3K race through our local community.

In San Luis Obispo County there are many school-aged children. The majority of these students choose to ride in cars or buses to get to and from school. I would like to see more of these students walking to school each day. Many live in the same neighborhoods and close enough to school that they could walk there together. The grant could allow these students to see the health and environmental benefits that can come from walking to school. We could help bring awareness to the city officials if paths are not safe enough, cross walked unmarked, sidewalks not in place, etc.

We live in a very small town in central Oklahoma. Our town has less than 500 people. We don't have any health clubs or boys and girls clubs for the people to use. We do have a very large, and beautiful park with some playground equipment and two baseball fields. What we are working on is building a fitness trail that everyone in our community can use.
The fitness trail will be a one mile long by 4 foot wide lighted path around the outside of the park. One quarter mile of the path will go through the woods. The city park, named Tiger Park, is located at the cener of town.

Annual walk in Central Park, NYC. This year on May 12, 2007, kids, teachers and parents come together to walk for Pediatric Cancer. Before walking, each participant is required to raise some money (anywhere from $1-$anything) to go towards treating and conducting research for Pediatric Cancer.
