The Marchin' White Tigers Community Drill Team

This group was created on September 11, 2004 by Carlton C.J. Jaushlin at the age of 16. We are a marching and dance drill team working to provide training, discipline, challenges and competition opportunities for under privilege youth in the Wichita area. Our goal is to provide direction to the youth in an effort to keep the out of and away from gangs and gang violence, drugs, and jail. Being apart of the drill team requires that the youth have a C average or above to stay on the team. they also must be team players.

Take Good Care Back Packs

When children are admitted into a hospital they experience numerous amounts of emotions including fear, anger, abandonment, rejection, resentment, loneliness, embarassment, and guilt. Take Good Care Back Packs is a support program I am developing with the Child Life Specialists at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Take Good Care Back Packs will be given to pediatric patients when they are first admitted into the hospital in hopes that the backpacks will provide the children with fun activities that will keep their minds off of their unfortunate situation.

Keylatch Summer Program

The Keylatch Summer provides underserved children from Boston's South End with a high-quality, enriching summer camp experience. Community leaders, families, and Keylatch staff engage campers in activities that allow them to explore new opportunities, deepen cultural and community pride, and foster a love of learning. Racial tensions and inter-neighborhood violence abound, and most of the youth violence that occurs in Boston takes place in and around the South End.

College Mentors For Kids

This is a club of college students who meet with grade school children every week to do activities on a college campus. We introduce the kids to professors and visit different buildings on the Notre Dame campus to show the kids the benefits of attending college. The kids are in 1st through 4th grade, and none of their parents ever went to college. So, generally we are their first impression and experience with higher education. We teach them about all the opportunities college can offer, and how they could attend.

Youth Talent Explosion

A community talent show for youth ages 12-24. We are doing this so youth can find a positive way for expressing our feelings and using their talents as outlets instead of something destructive or harmful towards themselves and/or the community. We want to bring about a change in their attitudes about the community. Then help to change the community.

Nutriton and Exercise

Organize an 8-week program for 8th grade students. Give 2 nutrition lectures throughout, informing them on the benefits of eating healthy. Get them involved; start an afterschool activities program.

"Be Somebody"

This program is a peer youth mentoring program for students aged 12 - 16, where students not only focus on enhancing their academic studies but learn to be successful in life through computer learning, travel and community service and leadership projects and activities. We have been responsible for helping a local early childhood education center seek and obtain funding to develop a new play area for their students aged 3 - 9 and are currently working on a project where we are helping them obtain funding for a youth playground for their students aged 10 - 13.
