Cause(s) to check out:
The absurdly talented Jordin Sparks lent her name and fame to a great cause last week, shooting a public service announcement in Hollywood for Do Something. The summer '08 PSA campaign, entitled Do Something 101: School Supplies for Kids in Need, is a call to action for young people to drop off new pens, notebooks, backpacks -- think any and all classroom basics -- at your nearest Staples store starting July 6th. Look for the PSA to begin airing in May on Channel One and Bus Radio, among other places (including right here on CGG, of course!).
In addition to CGG, Entertainment Tonight was at the shoot (check out their coverage on the show this Wednesday, April 9), as was People. In light of this year's American Idol finalist David Cook -- who is dealing with a brief hospitalization due to high blood pressure and heart palpitations, and, according to People, his brother Adam's battle with cancer -- Jordin explained to People.com her personal story of performing under painful circumstances:
"The week before we came up for the Top 24, my best friend passed away, and I was just like, 'I don't know if I can go out there. . . I went to the funeral and came back and then my uncle passed away – and then my grandma ... and so I had three deaths go on during the show.
"It's hard because you have to go out there and put this smile on your face. It's very exhausting, and it's very overwhelming and kind of gets to you. I mean, I got sick a couple times, just because I was so tired and kept trying to do all this stuff and it was crazy." (source)
Jordin's ability to draw strength from tragedy is absolutely admirable, as is David's tribute to his brother: the initials A.C. that he's put on his electric guitar.
