Bar Refaeli, international supermodel and girlfriend to environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio, attended the Somaly Mam Benefit in NYC last night to raise global awareness about human trafficking. Supermodel Petra Nemcova attended the event, along with Somaly Mam, a former child sex slave who founded the Somaly Mam Foundation.

At the benefit, The Somaly Mam Foundation featured the premiere of the movie Holly. The film tells the story about a young girl caught in the web of the sex slave trade in Cambodia and the man who tries to save her. Holly was shot on location in Cambodia, including many scenes in actual brothels in the notorious red light district of Phnom Penh. source

The Somaly Mam Foundation helps young girls come out of the human trafficking scene by offering food, shelter, and education as well as crisis counseling.

According to the foundation's website, over one million girls are trafficked per year in an industry that rakes in over $12 billion a year.

I wonder if Leo's do-gooding efforts are rubbing off on Bar, or maybe its the other way around. Either way, they are making waves and we love it! Keep it up!
