While our mission is the develop unity, cultural awareness, and a stable support line for women of the African Diaspora, we encourage diverse participation. Women of the African Diaspora have very low interaction on campus and graduate at a much slower rate than other groups. It is our purpose to remedy the issues that cause these two problems through self empowerment, sisterhood, community service, campus and community events, acceptance and activism.

The 29th Day Preventive Task Force is a Student Activist Group that is still in it's first year. Our slogan is Discussion - Education - Action. We seek to make our campus, our community, and our world a better place through several programs. Some of our efforts include:
Recycling Efforts - from picking up trash and recycling the salvagable materials to encouraging our peers, professors, and campus staff to recycle.

Our town needs change... and it needs to come from the youth population. Proposed is a Learning Through Service (LTS) program that would work with all public schools K-12 (and any private / charter school that shows interest!) to execute community service projects that directly correlate to the curriculum students are learning!
Our students are extremely active, and this program would allow them a more upfront and creative way to be activists! For more on WH youth activism, check out our website: www.rockandlearn.org
We're also on Facebook (Rock West Hartford) or MySpace!!

A party was held, and to get in, you had to doate 2 hygeine items. these were later placed into bags, that were decorated, with soothing pictures and quotes. we then took these bags to a place called the refug house. the refuge house is a temporary shelter for foster children. the kids' faces were so filled with hope and joy, and i was so excited. i felt a sense of accomplishment and hopefully making the children feel a little more welcome at the home. but, it didn't stop there. the refuge house still needed our help. they needed another office, so they were building one in San Antonio, Tx.

Accident, nature, or by terrorist attacks — we have become much more aware of the devastation that can be caused by unexpected disasters such as these. Since September 11, 2001, much has changed in our world, nation, state, and community. Each day we are worried by the "what ifs" and wonder what we can do.
One of the things that each individual family and community can do is take steps to prepare for a possible disaster. There are many different types of disasters that you can find information on and learn how to be prepared for.

The project I organized and carried out to benefit the community was Kickin’ It Through the Night. It was an all night soccer tournament to benefit special Olympics. I conducted this project for a marketing and business class, called Advanced Marketing and DECA. DECA is an association of marketing students that I am involved in. The first day of Advanced Marketing & DECA class, our advisor presented us with all of the goals for Lakeville North DECA for the year.

This project is stimulated from Public Achievement which is an international, experienced-based civic education initiative that empowers young people to engage in public work. Focused on the most basic concepts of citizenship, democracy, and public work, Public Achievement draws on the talents and desires of ordinary people to build a better world and to create a different kind of politics.
The Peace Park project was generated from a group of Public Achievement students that want to improve their surrounding community by restoring the Peace Park in Lafayette Colorado.

The project that I plan on undertaking is to construct 3 medium sized compost bins for the Toledo Area Metro Parks. These bins will all be connected to form a composting system where the material to be composted will be placed in the first box, then as it further decomposes it will be moved to the second box, and finally be moved to the third box for the final stage of decomposition. These boxes will also include aeration tubes to hasten the decomposition process. The aeration tubes will be Sealed Tiling Pipes from Tractor Supply Company.

This is a yearly concert my friend and I started in the summer of 2007 that actually happened in October of 2007. We brought in some of the best unsigned or underground indie/alternative rock bands in the midwest to come play at the Tecumseh Center for the Arts in Tecumseh, Michigan. We wanted to show our town some real music, and give the best local bands a chance to play with some of the best bands out there, while still doing something good for our community. The profits from the show go to a local charity.
