Last night CGG attended the 2nd Annual Gift Bags for Good at the W Hotel in Union Square NYC. The classy event drew a crowd of tastemakers to bid on a variety of gift bags donated by celebrities and organizations, to raise money for WaterPartners International. DJ Josh Madden played rocking tunes all night and Royston Langdon, Unisex Salon played a live set. If there’s one smart way to get partygoers to pull out their wallets it’s to tempt them with swag bags full of the hottest products of the season. Some of the choice offerings included bags from the Grammy Awards, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, and publications like InStyle, Cosmopolitan and Lucky.
According to WaterPartners, more than one billion people (one in six) lack access to safe drinking water. Water-related diseases are the leading cause of death. And millions of women and children spend hours daily collecting water from distant, polluted sources. But the solutions are simple and economical. WaterPartners makes small loans to communities in Bangladesh, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Honduras, India, Kenya, and the Philippines to help them gain access to safe, clean water.
We met up 30 Rock’s Lonny Ross (who plays the lovable Josh Girard) and got the scoop on why he donated a Sports Museum of America Bag to the event.
“Obviously charity events are for a good cause and this wasn’t a hard event to say yes to. You get to leave with an awesome gift bag. And it’s a fun outlet to give back of course."
What was in Lonny's all-time favorite gift bag? “Guitar Hero 3. That was from a gifting suite.” We would love to see the tall comedian guitar battling with rock legend Slash.
And before you get too jealous, just know that Lonny is a major CelebGoneGood. He has a variety of causes from the Central Park Conservancy and World Wildlife Fund, “I’m a big nature guy” to Autism Speaks, NBC’s charity of choice. He also does a cancer walk, which is very close to home as his cousin was recently treated for cancer.
But what’s Lonny's biggest cause? “30 Rock! We bring laughter to the world. That’s our charity.”
Lonny has a serious message for Do Something teens “Please don’t stop.”
A number of items are available to bid online at Clothesoffourback.org thru May 22.
