Powerhouse Powell backs Obama
For many years it was thought he would eventually become the first African-American president, but yesterday the former Secretary of State Colin Powell, who served under both Bush administrations, endorsed Senator Barack Obama.
This is an immensely significant endorsement for Obama who has been criticized for his limited foreign policy credentials as a first-term senator whose national experience amounts to four years in the Senate.

Girl called racist for pro-Palin shirt
A 12-year-old Florida girl is feeling the heat of this election year first hand. The seventh grader was labeled a racist by classmates for wearing a pro-Sarah Palin t-shirt to school.
Ashleigh Jones is volunteering at the Republican Headquarters in her hometown of New Smyrna Beach and was given the t-shirt as a gift from her fellow volunteers. But when she wore it to school she learned just how tough politics can be.

Student GOP leader quits over Obama remark
The leader of a Pennsylvania group of college Republicans has been forced to resign after posting what have been deemed racially insensitive comments about Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama on the Internet.
Adam LaDuca, 21, the former executive director of the Pennsylvania Federation of College Republicans, wrote on his Facebook page in late July that Obama has "a pair of lips so large he could float half of Cuba to the shores of Miami (and probably would.)"
