Youth Action

The mission of the Youth Action is to encourage youth to participate in missionary work and promote a culture of public service by providing sponsorships for those that may be financially unable to pay for their passage. As our cooperative grows, the organization’s mission will also provide direct support to projects related to domestic and international mission trips. The Youth Action was organized to serve youth who share an ethic of service and who are motivated to effect change in their communities and the world at large.

Student Advocacy for Equitable Recovery (SAFER) : Rebuilding New Orleans

SAFER takes the direct approach to rebuilding the city of New Orleans, offering free labor to people who would otherwise be unable to afford the cost of repairing their homes. We communicate directly with our families about their needs and their hopes for their rebuilt homes, and with community leaders and organizations about their plans for revitalizing their neighborhood. We realize that rebuilding can be a huge challenge, especially for homeowners who have few funds or also have the responsibility of a job and caring for a family.

New Orleans Young Urban Rebuilding Professionals Initiative(NYI)

The mission of the New Orleans Young Urban Rebuilding Professionals Initiative (NYI) is to create a support network to connect, retain, and attract young professionals from diverse backgrounds for a sustainable New Orleans. While the majority of the attention in New Orleans is focused on rebuilding the infrastructure, there also needs to be a way to invest in the future human capital of the city. In order to do so, there must be an organization that finds ways of connecting those who are here, giving them the opportunities to stay in New Orleans, and attract more people.

TeensLead

The mission of TeensLead, L.L.C. is to connect New Orleans area students and incoming volunteers to beautification and service projects in New Orleans; and to further develop individual leadership skills. We intend on achieving this through three goals. 1) Connecting local high school students with service projects in New Orleans. Most New Orleans high school students require service hours to complete their high school education. TeensLead will not only supply service requirements through separate service projects, but re-acquaint local students with their community.

The Future of Condemned Preschool

On April 1, 2007, I went home to enjoy some quiet time with my family but that was interrupted when community members came by to vent about the local pre-school to my father, so my dad and I went to check it out. But after the visit we decided to hold off until the next day for safety reasons and waited until morning. The next day we went to the Pre-School and what we found was startling. All the windows were broken, construction materials everywhere, the chalkboard had obscene spray painted on them, and in most places there were no walls.
