The 29th Day Preventive Task Force: Discussion - Education - Action

The 29th Day Preventive Task Force is a Student Activist Group that is still in it's first year. Our slogan is Discussion - Education - Action. We seek to make our campus, our community, and our world a better place through several programs. Some of our efforts include:

Recycling Efforts - from picking up trash and recycling the salvagable materials to encouraging our peers, professors, and campus staff to recycle.

Students for a Better Education (SBE)

Many students feel like they don't really have a say in their education. They don't like their schools and classes? Eh, their voices don't matter. They don't think that there's enough funding for their education? No one will listen to them if they try and share their voice.

Deaf Youth USA is committed to social justice through media and activism. Deaf Youth USA (DYUSA) is a new and "emerging" organization exclusively for deaf youth in America, between the ages of 18 - 30. DYUSA strives to empower, educate, and inspire deaf youth in making a difference in their own communities, through giving tools. We aim to have our first event this summer, which will be a 4-day camp, with forums, discussions, and workshops.

4 PEACE

4 Peace was founded in October of 2006. Our various projects are innovative, well-organized and staffed with energized membership, but find themselves hampered by a lack of funding. The members of 4 Peace are aware of "Do Something” ’s reputation as a socially responsible and equitable community member, and believe our organizations are dedicated to the same goals. 4 Peace aspires to begin our work as soon as we possibly can, but we need help to do so. We therefore ask for the honor of your consideration for a Plum Grant.

PETA-The Animal Rights Organization

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), with more than 1.8 million members and supporters, is the largest animal rights organization in the world. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in laboratories, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds and other "pests," and the abuse of backyard dogs.

STEP UP speak up!

Living in southern West Virginia where cultural norms often take precedence over healthy decision making, it has always been evident that a greater community-wide effort needed to be born to counteract the destructive decisions of various members of the community where I live, namely youth.

Pink Prom

I am planning on holding a LGBT friendly dance in the Greater Seattle Area.

Many students (including non-LGBT students in high school) do not feel comfortable going to dances with their significant other because of hostility in their own school. Students also need to have feelings of safety, comfort, and community to be successful adults.

The Holland Project

People often forget, that even in the most ill-reputed cities, millions of teenagers are growing up everyday. Reno is not typically a city that is known for it's young people, and Reno for decades has been misconstrued as a desolate and uncultured slump in the sunken mattress of America. The Holland Project is working to change this. The Holland Project is an all ages venue and community project founded locally by Brittany Curtis and Joe Ferguson.
