For my senior project at school, I am starting a youth soccer program that will be open to children grades 5-8. It will be low cost, so that it will be available to low-income families in the area. Also, this program will run in the summer, when there is currently no soccer program available for children who want to play. The money that I raise will buy equipment for the program that will then be donated to the St. Johnsbury Recreation Department. I will also be looking for donations to help purchase tee-shirts for the children.

I am 15 and starting to plan a sporting complex with my Mom and Dad and I have talked to my Mayor amung others. I live in a high violence urban area and we don't have many options for recreation and because of this many teens revert to gangs and violence on the streets. We need this indoor sports complex to give us some place to have fun with our family and friends whether atheletes or not. It also provides fun job opportunities rather than bagging groceries or something to that nature which may not be a fit for everyone.

Last summer I attended a rock concert in New York City by the band Dispatch. It was a beneift concert for Zimbabwe relief. I was inspired to do something that would impact the people of Zimbabwe in some way. I contaced the band following the concert and asked for the names of organizations involved in the relief effort. They put me in touch with US-Africa Children's Fellowship based in Brooklyn, NY. The organization explained to me that many times the children in Zimbabwe do not participate in sports for fear of ripping the one school uniform that they own.

TopSoccer is a special program designed for children with mental or physical disabilities. TOPSoccer provides these children with an exciting and unforgettable experience filled with team games including contests and prizes. TOPSoccer uses volunteers in local communities to provide accomodations and ideas for specific children in the area. Thousands of children have experienced TOPSoccer and many more will in the future, as long as generous volunteers continue to help the cause.

Health and Fitness Day is a day when 600 fifth and sixth graders for around the area come to our school and learn how to become healthier. It is held two times a year, in the fall and the spring for a whole day. It is just a day to have fun and exercise at the same time.

Is this about "Healthy Living"? Is it about "Fitness". Is it about "Recycling"?. Is it about "World Poverty"?... I really don't know what category to slot this into. I DO know that the world plays soccer and that in most of the world, the game is played in the streets, on dusty dirt fields and in venues that look nothing like the manicured soccer fields that most of us here in the U.S. play in. Quite often, kids are lucky to have an actual ball to play the game with as opposed to something improvised.

For my community service project I volunteered for the Uppward Soccer progam at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, I met every Thurdays from 6pm-7pm with 8 first grade girls and taught them the basics of soccer, kickin, dribbling, shooting, rules..etc. Games where every Saturday, each girl would have an equal opprotunity to play and they will also rewared at the end for the best effort, best sportmanship, best deffense and best offense.

We would like to collect soccer gear from the community, including cleates, uniforms, shin guards, socks, and soccer balls. We would also like to get donations to ship the gear to Sierra Leone. These donations will help youth soccer leagues in Sierra Leone. The soccer teams help promote fitness, self confidence, teamwork, and dedication in their participants.
Soccer is a major passion for many of the youths in Sierra Leone. Unfortunetly Sierra Leone is one the poorest countries in the World.
