See It: The Community being helped

Acting is something that everyone can do. It is also a great way to raise money. I work at a Church in crime-ridden Asbury Park, NJ. Everyday children see drug-deals and listen to gunshots. I want to change that by opening a Theater in the Church that can help get these kids off the streets. Working with volunteers from within my Church, i plan to hold auditions and productions using these kids. Money is the only thing we are lacking. This grant would make such a big difference for our group. Thank you for considering us.

Young at Art Fashion Show

See It: The Community being helped

The first-annual Young at Art Fashion Show was designed to lure teenagers into a fun, yet educational experience. Volunteers participated in designing outfits from "trash", as well as modeling them in front of their peers. The materials used for the show were donated by numerous local companies. The goods included cloth, egg cartons, trash bags, etc. We were able to get local bands to play for free, and local supermarkets to also donate food and refreshments. With a $5.00 ticket to enter, Young at Art (a non-profit organization) was able to raise a large sum of money, while educating young adults in the need for recycling and conserving the environment. The project was so impacting that a local newspaper created a section solely dedicated toward it.

Project Updates:

Young at Art held another Fashion Show one year after the one that I helped coordinate. The project was entirely successful and the community saw the opportunity to continue to educate the public through entertainment. Teenagers are the future. Therefore they need to be constantly reminded that the environment needs help, and that individuals can, and should, do something about it.
